Education and Training

Giving young people more opportunities to develop their potential lies at the heart of the Club's education and training contributions. These range from the provision of new educational facilities and equipment to the setting up of educational funds and scholarships, teacher training programmes and the promotion of cultural exchanges.

The Hong Kong Jockey Club Education Fund, established in 1960, has since helped nearly 150,000 financially disadvantaged Secondary 4 and 5 students to further their education. Recently the Fund's scope has been widened to assist some 25,000 students a year.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, opened in 1992, was built with Club funds. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship Scheme, established in 1998 has provided scholarships for more than 210 local and Mainland students pursuing tertiary education at local universities and institutions.

"READ & Write: A Jockey Club Learning Support Network" is a five-year, HK$154 million project initiated by the Club in 2006 to help students with specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia develop their full potential.
