The Club plays a vital role in supporting and developing Hong Kong's medical services. It collaborates with Government and local institutions in the promotion of primary health care, the improvement of facilities, the introduction of new technology and educational facilities and the conduct of research into the treatment and prevention of disease.
In 2003, in support of the fight against communicable diseases, the Club donated HK$500 million towards the establishment of the Centre for Health Protection. . The Centre, under the Department of Health, opened in October 2004.
In 2005, the Club provided a HK$175 million grant to enable the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, in partnership with Geron Corporation of the US, establish a new biotechnology company in Hong Kong which is poised to become a leading world centre in the search for new drugs to combat ageing-related diseases.
