The HKJC Scholarship Scheme
Established in 1998/99, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Scholarship Scheme aims to encourage gifted and academically outstanding local and Mainland students to pursue undergraduate studies in Hong Kong. Number of Scholarships The Scholarship Scheme provides an average of 27 scholarships each year, 19 for Hong Kong students and 8 for Mainland students who are formally offered places by the UGC-funded or public-funded institutions as listed below: City University of Hong Kong Value and Tenure of Scholarships The value of each scholarship covers tuition fee, educational expenses and living costs in full, estimated at about $290,000 for three years. The scholarship is offered on an annual renewable basis and is tenable for a period of up to three years, subject to continued outstanding academic performance. Application Procedures Applicants should make enquiries and apply directly through the institution that they are attending in September/October each year. The Jockey Club Scholars Alumni Association The Jockey Club Scholars Alumni Association was established with the guidance and support of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. It aims to foster the bonds and friendship among scholars and promote the spirit of service to the Hong Kong community. The Association is operated by an Executive Committee. Over the past years, the Association has organised a number of activities and training workshops for its members, including community services to serve the elderly, single-parent families, young people at risk, new arrivals and disabled children. For their event details, please browse the Association's website. Presentation of Awards A presentation ceremony is held in March each year. The Vice-Chancellor/President or their representatives from each of the universities/institutions accompany their students to receive the awards from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Graduation Dinner A graduation dinner is held in November/December each year to celebrate the graduation of Jockey Club Scholars from their respective universities. Guests of the past graduation celebration dinners have included Mr Tung Chee Hwa, the former HKSAR Chief Executive; Mrs Anson Chan, the former Chief Secretary for Administration; Mr Po Chung, Chairman Emeritus of DHL International Limited; Ms Marjorie Yang, Chairman and CEO of Esquel Group; and Sir Yang Ti-Liang, former Chief Justice. These well known leaders have shared with the scholars their experience in community service and personal development.
