The Club's initiative in creating Victoria Park and building its Olympic-size pool has been followed over the years by donations for many other parks, sports grounds and leisure facilities including Ocean Park, Kowloon Park, Hong Kong Park, the Hong Kong Sports Institute and three public riding schools.
The Jockey Club Kau Sai Chau Public Golf Course, opened in 1995, has not only played a significant role in popularising the game of golf in Hong Kong, but has also won awards for its environmental approach, having regenerated the natural flora and fauna of a formerly barren island. A third public course at Kau Sai Chau opened in early 2008.
The Club has recently donated HK$88 million to The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to establish a joint Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre, an academy of excellence that will complement Hong Kong's staging of the 2008 Olympic equestrian events and the 2009 East Asian Games.
The Club is also a strong supporter of arts and culture in Hong Kong. Grants provided to the Hong Kong Arts Festival, enable the public to enjoy performances by leading arts groups from all over the world each year. The Summer Youth Programme, organised by the Government with supported from Club funds, has become an increasingly popular annual event for local young people since its inception in 1969.
