The Club has operated an authorised lottery service on Government's behalf since 1975, when it was asked to introduce the Mark Six to combat rampant illegal gambling on che fa ¡V a lottery game that had become very widespread at the time.
Since then the Mark Six has become a familiar part of life for Hong Kong people, creating more than 2,700 millionaires, of whom more than 350 have won over HK$10 million. The highest payout on a single winning ticket to date was HK$71 million in 2003.
At the same time, the Mark Six has contributed some HK$20 billion to Government revenue as betting duty and another HK$9 billion to the Lotteries Fund to support social welfare projects .
The Mark Six is operated by HKJC Lotteries Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Club. It is a 6-out-of-49 lottery game with seven prize levels. Twenty-five per cent of lottery turnover is paid to Government as betting duty and another 15 per cent directly contributed to the Lotteries Fund.
On average, three Mark Six draws are held every week, with special, added value "snowball" draws at festive periods such as Lunar New Year and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
