The Hong Kong Jockey Club's already long-established tradition of philanthropy was, in the 1950s, set on a course that today has become an internationally respected business model - a world-class horse-racing organisation that gives its surplus back to the community. Since those post-war years, no aspect of the Hong Kong community has gone untouched by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust donations.
The Club's donations are focused on four key sectors:
The Club ranks amongst the world's largest charitable organisations, having over the past decade donated an average of HK$1 billion every year to support a vast range community projects and activities.
Giving in such magnitude brings its responsibilities. Our efforts to find the most value in each dollar donated have fostered a role of involvement, participation and in many instances, partnerships. This at times takes us in directions where we ourselves pioneer the work or help other organisations to go that extra mile. We are flexible and responsive with funding, often bringing immediate relief where Government and other organisations are constrained. Our donations also initiate large-scale projects that change the social and community landscape of Hong Kong and that, in time, become self-sufficient.
We learn from each project and organisation we fund. We continually move forward in our thinking, ever watchful of how and where we can contribute to the maximum and lasting benefit of the entire community. We are thankful for the rich heritage we enjoy as a part of Hong Kong's history and strive to be a positive influence on its future.
