Hong Kong raiders working well at Kranji

14/05/2015

Aerovelocity, Rich Tapestry and Dan Excel all stretched out on the Kranji turf this morning (Thursday 14 May) while their fellow Hong Kong-trained contenders for the Singapore International Racing Festival, Lucky Nine and Military Attack, exercised on the Polytrack.

Aerovelocity was the first horse on the track at 5am and appeared to be in fine fettle. Minus his trademark pink blinkers, the Paul O’Sullivan-trained dual Group 1 winner limbered up for Sunday’s G1 KrisFlyer International Sprint (1200m) with an easy breeze. The six-year-old bay had a good look at the assembled photographers as he approached the winning post and decided to play camera-shy, jinking slightly to his left as he passed by.

“All’s good with him,” said O’Sullivan, “he’s doing everything just as he would at home. He worked 800m this morning; his rider was instructed to go about 30 (seconds) and 28 and he did it nicely.”

Rich Tapestry followed shortly afterwards at a swifter clip. Michael Chang’s charge also appeared to be in good form. He strode out well, galloping over the floodlit turf under his regular work rider, Vincent Sit.

“He feels good,” said Sit, as the G1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship victor exited the track and headed back to the quarantine stables.

John Moore arrived in Singapore late yesterday and the trainer was on hand to oversee Dan Excel. Last year’s G1 Singapore Airlines International Cup (2000m) winner continued his preparation for this year’s renewal with a solid gallop. The Shamardal seven-year-old worked 1400m on the grass and closed off strongly down the home stretch.

“He’s used to the travel now and George (Moore) tells me the horse has been doing fine, he’s in good heart,” said Moore. “He’s been eating well and his weight’s good. If anything he’s slightly on the bigger side but that will drop off. We worked him from the 1400m and he did that nicely enough.”

The Caspar Fownes-trained duo, Military Attack and Lucky Nine, both previous winners here, went onto the main all-weather track at around 5.20am. Military Attack is aiming to regain the SIA Cup title he won in 2013, while Lucky Nine is bidding for a hat-trick in the KrisFlyer International Sprint. The pair had a light canter for a couple of circuits.
