Composite Win to be launched from 25 October

07/10/2015

HKJC Horse Race Betting Limited will introduce Composite Win starting from the race meeting of 25 October. Composite Win provides customers* with a new and simplified way to pick the winner of a race.

This new alternative way of betting offers many new customer propositions:
(a) simplification for leisure customers
(b) risk-hedging for serious customers
(c) cheering a particular region or trainer for sports fans

Turnover from Composite Win will be merged into the existing Win pool and dividends will be calculated on a pari-mutuel basis.

How it works
Under Composite Win, all the starters in a race are grouped into three or four designated composites.  Instead of picking a single horse from within the usual full field of 12 to 14 starters, customers can select a composite of several horses to win. Customers will receive a dividend if any horse within their selected composite wins. This dividend will be the same no matter which horse within the composite wins.

3 Pick 1
With reference to overnight Win odds, starters are grouped into three composites: “Overnight Favourites”, “Overnight Mid-Pricers” and “Other Outsiders”.

The first and second favourite horses are the “Overnight Favourites”, while the third, fourth and fifth favourite horses are the “Overnight Mid-Pricers” and the remaining horses are the “Other Outsiders”.

If there is a dominant horse whose overnight Win odds are 1.3 or lower, the “Overnight Favourites” composite will only be composed of this first favourite dominant horse while the “Overnight Mid-Pricers” composite will change to contain the second, third and fourth favourite horses.  The remaining horses in the race will be grouped as “Other Outsiders”.

Winning Region
Winning Region allows customers to pick all the starters from their preferred region which are running in the same race.  Horses are grouped into three to four composites according to the region they represent (not the country of origin), such as “Hong Kong” runners vs “Europe” runners vs “Japan” runners vs “Others”.

Winning Trainer
Winning Trainer allows customers to pick all the starters from their preferred trainer which are running in the same race.  Horses are grouped into three to four composites according to the trainer.

Example 1: “John Moore” runners vs “Tony Cruz” runners vs “Richard Gibson” runners vs “Others”

Example 2: “John Moore” runners vs “Other Local Trainers” runners vs “Overseas Trainers” runners

All Up betting

All Up and Cross Pool All Up betting are available for 3 Pick 1, but are not available for Winning Region and Winning Trainer due to the lower frequency with which the latter options are offered.

Rebate
Same as Win, a 10 percent rebate is applicable for a Composite Win losing bet of HK$10,000 or above on one single ticket or betline in local races.

Minimum unit bet and dividend
The minimum unit bet is $10 for a single race.  Flexi Bet is applicable for 3 Pick 1 All Up and Cross Pool All Up.  The minimum unit bet will be $1 if the total bet amount for a ticket or a betline is $100 or more.

The minimum dividend of Composite Win is $10.1 for a $10 winning unit.

Horse withdrawal

A Composite Win bet will be refunded if all starters in the same composite have been withdrawn or all starters outside the composite selected by the customer have been withdrawn.

Dead heat

In the event that the horses in a dead heat for first place are from different composites, the dividend for that race will be shared between those composites containing the dead heat horses.

If the horses in the dead heat for first place are in the same composite, there will only be one Composite Win dividend.

Odds display

Customers can view the Composite Win odds through various online platforms including the Club’s website www.hkjcracing.com, Mobile Betting Service, Racing Touch, Mango devices and MangoPRO betting app.

The information will also be shown on TV screens at Off-Course Betting Branches (OCBBs) and the racecourses, and will be available through the Odds and Information Hotline 1835888.

Odds calculation
Utilising Longitude technology, turnover from Composite Win is merged into the Win pool to ensure liquidity.  Each Composite Win bet is split into the Win bets of all the horses in the composite, based on a reverse ratio of their respective Win odds.  Regardless of which horse within the composite wins, the odds or payout will be the same.

Leaflet and website
Customers can go to OCBBs and racecourses for an information leaflet or visit the Club’s website for more details on Composite Win from 8 October onwards.

Terms and conditions relating to Composite Win are governed by the Horse Race Betting Rules, as amended from time to time.  Final arrangements are subject to any subsequent announcement by HKJC Horse Race Betting Limited.
