Celebrate the Year of the Monkey at CNY Raceday on 10 February; enjoy payouts of $80 million over the CNY period

13/01/2016

Chinese New Year Raceday has always been one of Hong Kong's most popular racing events, bringing families and friends together in festive celebration. With the Year of the Monkey just around the corner, the Hong Kong Jockey Club's Chief Executive Officer, Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges, hosted a press conference today (13 January), together with Executive Director of Racing Business and Operations Anthony Kelly and Executive Director of Customer and Marketing Richard Cheung, to announce the spectacular on-course activities at Sha Tin Racecourse on Wednesday 10 February, the third day of the Chinese New Year.

The day will start with a grand opening show featuring Cantopop singing stars Adam Cheng and Aaron Kwok. There will be a CNY-themed merchandise bazaar, offering a selection of limited edition items, while a fortune display designed by feng shui master Mak Ling Ling will be set up on the forecourt.  All racegoers will receive a lucky ball pen and an instant win card# upon admission to the racecourse (while stocks last), offering them a chance to win a 24K gold plated ornament.  Over HK$730,000 worth of ornaments will be up for grabs.

Also attending today’s press conference was renowned local artist, Simon Ma, who has again joined forces with the Club to create a special horse sculpture, which is the key visual for this year’s CNY promotion.  During the press conference he explained how the sculpture seeks to capture the excitement of a racehorse in motion.

$80 million in payouts to celebrate Chinese New Year
The Year of the Monkey will be celebrated with an estimated $80 million in payouts to lucky winners of the Triple Trio, Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool and Mark Six Chinese New Year Snowball Draw.

An estimated $28 million will await the holder of a single $10 winning unit for the Triple Trio at the CNY race meeting on the third day of Chinese New Year (Wednesday 10 February) thanks to top ups from the Triple Trio Reserve. A total jackpot of $2 million will also be allocated to the Quartet & First 4 Merged Pool on the same day. The jackpot will be split between the first leg of the Triple Trio (Race 5) and the last race (Race 11), with each carrying $1 million.

A further $50 million is expected to be up for grabs for a single first prize winner in the Mark Six Chinese New Year Snowball Draw on the fourth day of Chinese New Year, Thursday 11 February.  Start selling for the Mark Six Chinese New Year Snowball Draw commences on Thursday 4 February.
