Movie star Aaron Kwok and singer Adam Cheng celebrate with racegoers at the CNY Raceday

04/02/2016

Celebrating the Spring Festival at the Chinese New Year Raceday (photo 1) has always been hugely popular with Hong Kong people as an auspicious way to start the new year.  The Year of the Monkey should be no exception and The Hong Kong Jockey Club has again arranged an exciting array of CNY festivities for racegoers to enjoy at Sha Tin Racecourse on Wednesday 10 February, the third day of the Lunar New Year.

The excitement will start immediately on arrival, as each person entering Sha Tin Racecourse that day will receive a lucky ball pen (photo 2) along with an Instant Win card** before the start of Race 6, while stocks last.  The Instant Win card offers the chance to win a 24K gold plated ornament (photo 3) worth HK$1,220, sponsored by Love Knots.  In total there are 600 ornaments to be won, together worth over HK$730,000.

A star-studded variety show and opening ceremony will be held at 11 am in the Parade Ring.  Movie Star Aaron Kwok will make an appearance, handing out lai see and tickets to his latest movie “The Monkey King II”. This will be followed by TV star and singer Adam Cheng performing his all-time favourites and popular CNY tunes.  Feng shui master Mak Ling Ling will share her lucky tips, and jockeys will wish fans good fortune and prosperity for the New Year.

Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong SAR, The Hon. John Tsang, will officiate at the opening ceremony and later present the Chinese New Year Cup (photo 4) (Race 8) to the winning connections.  An alluring $28 million Triple Trio dividend for a single $10 winning unit will give the day added lustre.

To share the festive atmosphere, the Hong Kong Jockey Club will join the annual International Chinese New Year Night Parade for the 21st consecutive year on the first day of the Chinese New Year (8 February).  After the night parade, the Club’s CNY float themed “Progressing Together for an Auspicious Year” will be on show at the Public Entrance, Sha Tin Racecourse on Chinese New Year Raceday for racegoers to take photos.

Master Mak Ling Ling has created a feng shui fortune display at the Public Forecourt.  The display is inspired by the famous Chinese “Monkey King” character from Chinese fiction. Mak will also share her lucky racing tips after Races 2, 5 and 6 at the Tipster Forum.

Racegoers can try to enrich their festive fortune by following Master Mak’s lucky tips.  She reveals that “2”, “6” and “9” are the lucky numbers for the day, and the most propitious periods will be 9am to 11am and 1pm to 3pm.  Visitors to the racecourse are encouraged to dress in white or yellow to improve their winning potential.

A variety of on-course programmes has also been arranged for the Chinese New Year Raceday.  Highlights include:

  • A special menu of Chinese New Year dishes will be offered at Mezza One in the Public Enclosure;
  • Collectible CNY merchandise will be available at the Concourse Sales Counter;
  • Stylish 24K gold-plated ornaments from Love Knots will be on sale at booths on the Concourse and in the 1/F Public Betting Hall.
