1200m – Turf

Apertura

Showed promise after moving from dirt to turf and finishing in top three spots for three races straight. Success at flat tracks did not translate to last two starts at more difficult tracks Hakodate and Sapporo. Change from regular jockey did not help last start as horse caught in tight spot coming into stretch with no room to move.

Brown Kai

Last out made move from midfield and found opening on inside. Second start following layoff and responses were good but unable to gain ground. Does better on heavier going.

Danon Iris

Promising 3-year-old filly with two wins, one second and a third in five career starts. Stepped up to this class last start on 7 Aug. Missed break but moved up steadily in solid effort to finish third over 1000m behind two dropping down in class.

Eagle Amont

Sprint specialist has proven consistent this year making top five spots, including one win at lower class, in six starts from eight 2016 races. Stepped up in class from last win. Last out in Sapporo was brought wide into stretch and showed good speed. Went all-out in battle for third to finish fourth.

Elisheva

Was successful at lower levels but has failed to make jump to open-class three starts aback in May.  Returned to current class since, best a ninth-place finish last out in a 1200m race at Kokura on 6 Aug.

Fukuno Gloria

Will be stepping up in class from last start on 18 Sept. That was first win in 10 starts since breaking maiden. Raced smoothly at easy pace in good position. Easily caught frontrunners for win.  The winning time was not remarkable but shows talent and success being possible in higher class.

Halteclere

Won at distance four races ago, then stepped up to this class for last three starts over 1200m and 1500m. Best a second at 1500m. Has shown ability over any going but proven inconsistent.

Happiness

Coming off second on 4 Sep. at Niigata at this distance. Broke very well, but moved inward from outside gate to settle midfield for ground-saving trip until going wide in stretch.

Kitasan Gamba

Won at Fukushima on 10 July and was raced less than two weeks later at higher class at same venue. Taken wide into stretch to finish 11th. Won debut in Nakayama 1200m race.

Peisha Felicita

Well turned out for last start on 3 Sep. Raced in third position to line up at top of stretch with eventual winner Ittetsu for long battle that saw Peisha Felicita ahead at one point. Pair caught and passed frontrunning Peisha Of Law 100m out but she settled for 2nd. Future looks bright for this promising filly.

Peisha Of Law

Finished third at this class last out on 3 Sep. at Sapporo over this distance. Broke well and sent forward. Led with characteristic tenacity but overtaken in final 100m by the winner and Peisha Felicita. Second at distance in race before that at Hakodate.

Sakura d'Essor

Ran fifth last out, best finish in past six starts after moving up in class. Last two starts were first over distance on turf in more than two years and has proven suited.

Suzuka Prior

Returned to turf at this distance last start on 28 Aug – the first time since debut in early 2014 – and he finished 9th. Unproven on turf.

Takara Janne

Stepping up in class following win over distance at Niigata on 27 Aug. Incurred interference after break and raced from behind. Tied for fastest speed over final 3 furlongs.

Takara Jennifer

Is returning to distance after last two starts at 1800m. Was successful earlier at 1200m but has not finished better than eighth in past seven starts.

Thurston Collardot

At distance for first time. Has wins at mile and 2000m in lower class. Has strong kick but likely looking for more distance than 1200m.
