The Hong Kong Jockey Club purchased two promising yearlings at Ireland’s Goffs Orby Sale on Wednesday, 28 September for a total outlay of €270,000 (approximately HK$2.38 million).
The hammer fell at €170,000 for Lot 252, a bay colt by Acclamation, a proven source of speed, precocity and class. The athletic youngster is a half-brother to French Emperor, a dual winner at 1200m as a juvenile and third in the G2 Railway Stakes at the same distance. The colt’s second dam, Lady Winner, won the G2 Prix d’Astarte and was runner-up in the G2 Prix de l’Opera in 1990, while the family also features the same year’s G1 English Derby winner, Quest For Fame.
The Club picked up Lot 366 for €100,000. A good moving type, the bay colt is by Camacho, another stallion with a firm record of imbuing his progeny with speed. This youngster, a half-brother to three-time Hong Kong winner Wayfoong Express, is from a quality German family.
