12th Sa Sa Ladies' Purse Day brings the racing charm to town

18/10/2016

The 12th edition of Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse Day (photo  1) will be staged on Sunday, 6 November at Sha Tin Racecourse. This year, Sa Sa and HKJC have invited famous Asian actress Tiffany Tang Yan to be the event ambassador. Race goers will receive a collectable souvenir brooch (photo 2) together with a Sa Sa discount coupon as door gifts upon entering Sha Tin and Happy Valley Racecourses (until the start of Race 6 or while stocks last).
To celebrate this spectacular event, a press conference was held today (Tuesday, 18 October) to announce the event details of Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse Day.

Mr. Anthony Kelly, the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s Executive Director, Racing Business & Operations said: “The Ladies’ Purse is one of Hong Kong racing’s oldest and most treasured traditions. The race was first contested in 1846 right here at Happy Valley.  That beloved tradition has led to Ladies’ Purse Day, one of our biggest days of the season with an attendance last year of more than 70,000 enthusiastic race-goers. Many of those were elegantly-dressed ladies. The Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse is in its sixth year as a Hong Kong Pattern race and this edition is the first to be staged as an international Group 3 contest. The race is an important stepping point towards the world-renowned LONGINES Hong Kong International Races here in December, so there is always a high-class field of horses vying for the Purse.”

During the press conference, Dr. Simon Kwok, BBS, JP, Chairman and CEO of Sa Sa International Holdings Limited said “Thanks for the continuous support from the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse Day can be successfully organized for twelve years. I believe that Sa Sa will effectively collaborate with the Hong Kong Jockey Club in the future, adding more fantastic elements into the Day. Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse Day will definitely become the international event that Hong Kongers will be proud of, attracting foreigners to come oversea to participate in this fascinating horse-racing event.”

This year’s elegantly-designed brooch featuring a horse theme in silver colour, chicly demonstrates the stylish and elegant image of Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse Day. To celebrate the 12th anniversary, Sa Sa brings globally-renowned milliner, Harvy Santos, and well-known local stylist, Mayao, to create a spectacular fashion show under the theme of “Beauty Go Round”. Top models will grace the catwalk to demonstrate stylish fashion in the Parade Ring on raceday.

A series of themed merchandise, including watches, scarves, handbags, wallets, bracelets and keychains to show how a glamorous lady can dress well to attend a race meeting, are also available on 6 November.

Sa Sa Ladies' Purse Day will be held at Sha Tin Racecourse on 6 November 2016. The highly anticipated Sa Sa Ladies’ Purse Handicap, an international Group 3 race over 1800m, will be staged as the feature race, with total prize money of HK$3 million. Eleven races are programmed for the day, with the first starting at 12:30pm.  Sha Tin Racecourse will open at 10:30 am.
