Hilton Stakes (VRC Springtime Stakes) - Form Comments

03/11/2016

Listed - 1400m – Turf

1

Souchez

Sound effort at first run this season when 4.9 lengths 5th to Spright in the Listed Crowley Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on 15 October. Suited by rise in distance but has to overcome top weight and wide draw.

2

Tessera

Freshened since 4.9 lengths 7th to Hey Doc in the G 2 Stutt Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on 30 September. That followed 0.75 lengths 2nd to Detective in Listed Exford Plate at this course and distance on soft ground on 10 September. Both wins on soft ground.

3

Benz

Won five straight at 1000m and 1200m against his own age before settling too far back when 3.4 lengths 5th to Cavaloce in open age Listed Durbridge Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on 15 October. Draws widest gate for first run at 1400m.

4

Niccolance

Chases third win from as many starts this season. Impressed at the distance at Randwick on 8 October when 1.75 lengths winner from Comin’ Through who then won 1600m G 3 race at Flemington last Saturday. Break between runs but won barrier trial 25 October.

5

Valliano

Good effort under top weight when 0.8 lengths 4th to Peacock in Listed Gothic Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 15 October. Gradually working into form.

6

Inside Agent

Came from last to win Listed race at this course and distance on 2 October before little luck when 1.7 lengths 6th to Peacock in Listed Gothic Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 15 October.

7

Sword Of Light

One of two fillies takings on the boys here (other is number 18). Found the 1600m too far last time when failed in G 1 Thousand Guineas. Sound previous run at this distance when 0.6 lengths 3rd to Legless Veuve in G 2 Thousand Guineas  Prelude (1400m) at Caulfield on 24 September.

8

Crafted

Yet to win but placed only three starts and latest was good when closing nose 2nd to Archives in the G 3 Red Anchor Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on 22 October. First run at distance.

9

Verstappen

Won two starts on good rated tracks (only unplaced run was on slow). Sound last time when on pace 2.25 lengths winner from Natch in Cranbourne 1300m 3YO BM 64.

10

Dam Ready

Disappointed when faded late for 2.25 lengths 5th to Archives in the G 3 Red Anchor Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on 22 October. Might improve at first run at distance.

11

Magnarock

Sound effort when 0.5 lengths 2nd to Inside Agent this course and distance on 2 October before battling fairly under top weight when 2.6 lengths 4th to Want To Rock in Bendigo 1400m 3YO BM 64 on 26 October.

12

Man From Uncle

Debut winner at 1000m on 8 October and then chased well when 2.75 lengths 2nd to Invincibella, who was then placed in Listed 1400m race here on Tuesday, in Randwick 1400m 3YO BM 72 on 22 October.

13

Simply Invincible

Ran 2.2 lengths 4th to Inside Agent at this course and distance on 2 October before wide throughout when 6.45 lengths last of 11 behind Peacock in Listed Gothic Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 15 October.

14

Enigman

Debuted with all the way win by 1.25 lengths from Fast And Furious in Bairnsdale 1200m Maiden on soft ground on 2 October. Placegetters from that race both since unplaced. Big rise in class but could surprise.

15

Gratwick

Won Warrnambool 1200m Maiden on heavy ground before half neck 2nd to Ashlor in Echuca 1200m 3YO BM 64 on 16 October. Ashlor then ran fair sixth to Speedeor here on Melbourne Cup day.

16

Palladian

Won Warwick Farm 1100m Maiden in good style on 12 October before failing on soft ground when 3.5 lengths last of 6 to Archives in the G 3 Red Anchor Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on 22 October. Jockey said failed to handle conditions last time.

Reserves

17

Wimborne

Sharply back in trip after three failures at 1800m and 2040m. Won at 1535m in weaker grade, on soft ground, four starts back.

18

Ceylon

Impressed at just second start when strong finishing 2 lengths winner from River Goddess (who won next start) in Cranbourne 1400m 3YO Fillies Maiden on soft ground on 7 October.

19

Ballet Master

Good effort to lead throughout, at second start, and win Cranbourne 1300m Maiden by 1 length from Ritchford. This much harder.

20

Butch Kissidy

Ran on well to win Pakenham 1400m Maiden, on synthetic track, by a nose from Serendipitious (since unplaced) on 17 October.
