EW Barker Trophy - Form Comments

17/11/2016

SIN G2 - 1400m – Turf

1

My Lucky Strike

22 starts for nine wins from 1000m to 1200m, all on the Polytrack. He bounced back to the winning list previous start over the flying 1000m, his pet distance. The win was his seventh over the trip but he'll need plenty of luck with no turf form to show.

2

Born To Fly

64 starts for 10 wins, including the EW Barker Trophy in 2014. With no recent form, it looks a tall order. Since his last victory over 1600m on 17 May last year, he has had a losing sequence of seven starts. He also has some issues.

3

Nova Strike

21 starts for seven wins, including the 1400m trip. He was placed in a Group 2 and two Group 3 over this distance. One who rarely runs a bad race, he scored last time out over 1200m in a fast 1:09.80. He will relish the extra 200m and is one of the chances.

4

Spanish Bay

23 starts for seven wins, four over 1400m. He has proven time and again that, if left cruising alone in front, he can be hard to beat. This was the case last time out in the G3 Saas Fee Stakes over 1400m.

5

Affleck

21 starts for eight wins, including the G1 Singapore Guineas last year and two Group 3. He seems to mix his form of late. He scored a comeback victory three starts ago but ran last in his latest outing, the G3 Committee's Prize over 1600m.

6

Raise No Doubt

21 starts for seven wins over sprints but none over 1400m. His recent form is not bad. Three starts back, he ran third to Rafaello in the G3 Garden City Trophy over 1200m. Last time out, he beat all but Nova Strike in a fast-run 1200m race.

7

Cavallo

48 starts for nine wins over sprints, only once over 1400m. He has not won since May last year and has gone through 16 losing runs. He popped up for a second placing three starts back over the Polytrack 1100m but is a long shot at best.

8

Jay Eff Express

13 starts for five wins, thrice over 1400m. His last success was in May over 1400m and had one more run before being spelled. Both his recent runs after a five-month break were just ordinary. This looks a bit out of his depth.

9

Darci Charmer

25 starts for seven wins, twice over 1400m. He ran second to former Hong Kong Sprint contender Spalato in the G3 Jumbo Jet Trophy over 1400m last year. Last start, he resumed from a five-and-a-half-month break to finish fourth.

10

Mr Fantastic

20 starts for six wins, once over 1400m. He has hit form, winning back-to-back over 1400m and first attempt over 1600m. However, this is a big rise in class and he may struggle somewhat.

11

Storm Troops

10 starts for five wins, once over 1400m. He has had two spells between October last year and earlier this month, and he resumed fresh each time to win, producing a strong run last start to score easily over 1200m in 1:09.72. With a feather weight, he cannot discounted.

12

Alibi

Seven starts for four wins, once over 1400m, and three seconds. Last time out, he flashed home too late to beat all but Spanish Bay by a neck in the G3 Saas Fee Stakes over 1400m. He won a trial recently and, with Joao "Magic" Moreira astride, he looks the horse to beat, especially with the light load.

13

Magnum

10 starts for four wins, once over 1400m. A genuine and consistent galloper who was placed in all three legs of this year's Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge. He resumed from a spell to win and then finished fourth in the Saas Fee Stakes. Another to note with no weight on his back.

14

Bring Money Home

30 starts for four wins over 1600m and 1700m. His recent form is not bad, finishing on board in his last four starts, including a win but most likely he could not bring the money home against this lot. He was unplaced in three previous Group attempts.

15

Fortune Winner

23 starts for five wins, once over 1400m. This mare has been running well recently, finishing on board in her last five outings, including two wins and a last-start second. Although she has nothing to carry, this will unlikely alter her fortune.

16

Lim's Cruiser

Six starts for three wins (once over 1400m), two seconds and a third. He was unlucky last start when third over 1600m. His rider's objection against the first horse past the post was overruled. He won his trial with plenty in hand and must come into calculations. Karis Teetan will be aboard.
