Ranvet Stakes - Form Comments

16/03/2017

G1 - 2000m – Turf

1

Hartnell

Below best last time, but there were excuses, when 9 lengths 8th to Winx in the G1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) on heavy ground at Randwick on 25 February. Runner-up to Winx in last year’s G1 Cox Plate at this distance (plus 40m). Good record at the distance and at this track where has won two from two. Handles wet but probably better soft ground rather than heavy.

2

Preferment

Failed to handle the heavy conditions when 25 lengths last of ten to Winx in the G1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on 25 February. Has since won 1200m barrier trial. Good record at 2000m. Prefer if ground not too soft.

3

Stratum Star

Scored third straight win when beat Humidor by a head in G2 at 1800m on 25 February. Then battled well when 1.8 lengths 4th to Humidor in G1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington last Saturday. Best form on good ground.

4

Our Ivanhowe

Import who hasn’t raced since 17th behind Almandin in last year’s G1 Melbourne Cup at 3200m. Did win G1 Doomben Cup at this distance last May. Capable fresh and and handles soft ground.

5

The United States

Solid effort at second run this year when 2.3 lengths 5th to Humidor in G1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington last Saturday. Latest win was on soft ground and won this race last year.

6

He’s Our Rokkii

Ran on well when 1.6 lengths 4th to It’s Somewhat in G2 Ajax Stakes (1500m) on soft ground at Rosehill last Saturday. Won only previous start this distance and has won three of five on soft ground.

7

Antonio Giuseppe

Impressive winner at 1500m at first run this year before sound 3.3 lengths 2nd to Tavago in G3 Sky High Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill last Saturday. Won two of four on soft tracks and unbeaten in two starts on heavy ground.

8

Sofia Rosa

New Zealand mare who won G1 ATC Oaks (2400m) on soft ground in Sydney last year. Sound effort at second run this year when 3.3 lengths 3rd to Kawi in G1 Haunui Classic (1600m) at Otaki (NZ) on 25 February. Four of five wins have come on soft ground.
