Incessant rainfall drenched Meydan racecourse this morning, Tuesday, 21 March, and early-riser Amazing Kids was the only Hong Kong contender to venture out to the main track as G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen candidates Not Listenin’tome and Dundonnell kept their feet dry.

Dundonnell has been in Dubai for a month now and the inclement weather was enough to persuade trainer Caspar Fownes to give his G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen (1200m, dirt) runner a break from routine.

“I didn’t send him out today, with all that rain around the track surface isn’t ideal, when it’s wet it’s not very nice,” he said. “He’s a fit horse and he’s been out on the track every day so this morning I kept him in to do some jogging in the trotting ring.”

The First Defense seven-year-old placed third at the course and distance in the G3 Mahab Al Shimaal on 4 March. Fownes intends to work the gelding on the track tomorrow.

“We’ll have a look at it tomorrow after they’ve harrowed it and if it’s all looking good we’ll put him on the dirt and he’ll jump out and gallop. He looks well.”

The John Moore-trained Not Listenin’tome was also kept away from the main track. This season’s G2 Jockey Club Sprint (1200m) winner exercised in the trotting ring and is expected to work on the dirt tomorrow. The gelding has settled in nicely since arriving at the weekend and is reportedly eating well.

Amazing Kids continued his preparation towards the G1 Al Quoz Sprint with a steady lap of the main dirt track shortly after 5am. Work rider David Mo did no more than enable the John Size-trained five-year-old to keep heart, lungs and legs ticking over ahead of Saturday’s 1200m test down the turf straight.

Size and Moore will be on hand from later today to oversee their respective charges’ preparations into Saturday’s contest.
