Hong Kongs Dubai three tick along at Meydan

Amazing Kids appeared to be fresh and hearty this morning (Wednesday, 22 March) at Meydan racecourse, three days out from the Dubai World Cup meeting, and the scene was similar as regards his two fellow Hong King raiders, Dundonnell and Not Listenin’tome, as each worked on the dirt track.

John Size was on hand pre-dawn to observe Amazing Kids work under floodlights. The trainer, a first-timer at this international shindig, waited at the end of the chute to the dirt circuit, inconspicuous and removed from the sizeable press pack, as his charge worked through a lap of the main track.

Amazing Kids, engaged in Saturday’s (25 March) G1 Al Quoz Sprint (1200m, turf) went an easy canter under work rider David Mo until the top of the stretch and then quickened his gait to a moderate but lung-opening tempo. Eased at the post, the five-year-old wound down to a walk in the back straight and had an eager spring in his trot as he jig-jogged off the track and returned to his stable.

“Everything is going normal, he seems okay to me. I just arrived late yesterday so there’s not a lot else to report at this stage,” said a taciturn Size.

Caspar Fownes was pleased with Dundonnell’s work. The seven-year-old heads to the G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen (1200m, dirt) having placed in his two starts at the course and distance.

This morning the bay was keen to get on with things and rider Paul Lo had to keep a firm grip as Dundonnell broke into a canter. Allowed to quicken down the home straight, the First Defense gelding moved powerfully.

“He can get a little keen but that’s just him, it’s nothing unusual – it’s nice to be a bit quirky,” Fownes said. “I’m pleased with him, seeing him do that was nice.

“I just worked him a half-mile, sort of 26/24 (seconds), just a nice breeze down the straight and he came past the line nice and strong. He’s a big horse so the thinking was to just blow him out a little bit but he’s very well – this is what I’d normally do with him so there’s no reason to change that.”

Trainer John Moore will arrive in Dubai tonight. His Golden Shaheen candidate Not Listenin’tome did two laps, the first half-circuit at a trot and the remainder at a slow canter under work rider Kelvin Wan. The seven-year-old appeared to be in good health.

The Moore team was this morning pleased with the horse’s condition and reported that Not Listenin’tome, set to contest his first dirt race at the weekend, has a hearty appetite.
