Dubai Sheema Classic - Form Comments

G1 - 2410m - Turf

1

Earnshaw

Has failed to win from 11 attempts at Meydan and his rating suggests he is very unlikely to win this. Admittedly he was only 1 1/2L behind the winner in a G1 over 1800m on Super Saturday, but this extra distance is unlikely to bring improvement.

2

Jack Hobbs

A lightly-raced five-year-old who, from modest beginnings, has become a force to be reckoned with at the very top level. Third in a red-hot G1 over 2000m at Ascot last October - a terrific performance and showing again that he can run right up to his best after a break.

3

Highland Reel

Couldn't quite manage to repeat his 2015 victory in the 2016 LONGINES Hong Kong Vase but the way he had previously stolen a G1 at Santa Anita from the front reveals how dangerous he can be when allowed to dominate. Fourth in this event last year, not at his best that day.

4

Sounds Of Earth

As his rating suggests he has plenty of class - invariably competing at the top level including a closing second in the 2016 Japan Cup at Tokyo last November. His lack of winning credentials will, however, be offputting for some.

5

Prize Money

A high class handicapper who proved he can win at a Group level when he fended off hot favourite Postponed in a G2 here on Super Saturday. Admittedly he kept that classy rival boxed at a crucial time there under a terrific tactical ride from Adrie de Vries. Meydan certainly suits him.

6

Seventh Heaven

A dual G1 winner over this distance in Ireland and the UK last summer, latterly easily beating subsequent Arc winner Found at York. A strong stayer, she couldn't quite match speedier rivals over 2000m in a G1 at Santa Anita on her final 2016 start. Quick fractions will help her.

7

Postponed

Confirmed himself as one of the best middle-distance horses in the world when stylishly winning this event as hot favourite last year. He just failed to catch Prize Money in his recent prep for this but that rival had a much easier trip and Postponed gets plenty of respect here.
