Chairmans Sprint Prize - Post-race jockey quotes

07/05/2017

1st - Lucky Bubbles – Hugh Bowman
“From the good draw and with a predictable race pattern, I was able to be where I anticipated I’d be. The horse was able to travel comfortably within himself because the pace was not frantic. I was a little concerned about where I’d go at the top of the straight because there wasn’t a clear passage but I didn’t have many options other than to wait a while. With a little bit of patience, a run presented itself and we all know the tenacity and toughness this horse has.”

2nd - Mr Stunning – Joao Moreira
“Fantastic run. He was kind of shying away from Not Listenin’tome and that cost him the win but overall the race was beautiful.”

3rd - Not Listenin’tome – Tommy Berry
“He tries hard and he ran well but he’s just a length off them at this level. He just doesn’t have that extra kick when it counts at the end.”

4th - Thewizardofoz – Chad Schofield
“He ran a great race. I got clear early in the straight but he hit a flat spot but really got going in the last 50 metres.”

5th - Peniaphobia – Neil Callan
“He’s run a decent race but he’s a much better horse when he’s on faster ground. When he gets an easy run on that faster ground he can skip two lengths on them but today he gave a little kick but he just felt a bit laboured on the slower ground.”

6th - Amazing Kids – Brett Prebble
“At one stage, I thought he was going well enough to win but he blew out in the last bit.”

7th - Dashing Fellow – Sam Clipperton
“Very honest effort. He sped out of the gates and got in to a good spot outside Peniaphobia and he stuck on well. He lacked that class the last 100 metres but there’s no questioning his toughness and he’s very honest.”

8th - Sun Jewellery – Karis Teetan
“He actually finished off well. He was out the back and I was very happy with the way he finished off.”

9th – Strathmore – Derek Leung
“He had a good spot in the race but on the home turn, when they kicked he was a bit held up so he couldn’t finish as well as he can.”

10th - Blizzard – Damian Lane
“They were just a bit sharp for him at 1200 (metres). I was beaten for speed early but he worked home OK.”
