Out of The Ordinary Handicap Stakes V Form Comments

02/06/2017

2405m – Turf

1

Carntop

From the stable that won this last year. Carntop wasn't beaten far in a G2 at Royal Ascot last year but has had his problems including suffering from ulcers -  finishing a long way last on his only start this season.

2

Soldier In Action

Better known for his exploits over hurdles, and he hasn't made much impact on the Flat in both his starts this season. He also struggled in the 2000m handicap on this card last year but his trainer has successfully targeted this race before.

3

Eddystone Rock

Has been struggling to recapture winning form since moving from Ireland to the UK, his last start being a modest effort in a handicap here in April. Supporters will hope that a gradually slipping handicap mark and the move up to this distance will help.

4

Shraaoh

One can take positive things from several of his runs last year though he was a bitter disappointment when favourite at Royal Ascot. On more suitable fast ground he very nearly landed a valuable Goodwood handicap over 2400m. 2017 debut now.

5

Sennockian Star

The veteran of 90 starts with one of his 14 wins coming here (over shorter) but some subsequent Epsom efforts have not been good. Nothing special from recent starts either but he is the type who can bounce back to winning form without warning.

6

Gawdawpalin

Clearly likes Epsom and was the surprise winner of the 2000m handicap on this card last year. He also ran a good third over 2015m here in April, despite hanging in the straight. Possibilities as he appears to stay this extra distance.

7

Barwick

A versatile veteran who also competes over hurdles and has a good record when in action over this course and distance and back here most recently with another positive run. He does best when relaxing off a strong pace and slow ground also helps.

8

Green Light

He won this race last year for a different stable. Since then there have been various disappointments at other tracks. However he races off a similar handicap mark to last year's Epsom victory and if the ground is on the slow side he can't be ignored.

9

Murgan

Has only raced once since winning his maiden in late 2015, and he has switched stables since that poor run last season. He's hard to assess.

10

Whinging Willie

No horse has more Epsom experience with ten previous starts here, and, though placed on various occasions, he hasn't won and also was only 13th in this race last year. He ran quite well (here) on his only 2017 start.

11

Lorelina

Facts and figures indicate that her four runs here at Epsom - including two wins - have been just about her four best career performances. She hasn't shown a huge amount lately but Epsom may again see her at her best.

12

Spinners Ball

A first try around these undulations for this gelding, but he has plenty of stamina and also comes here off a victory last time, grabbing the money in the last strides at Windsor. His trainer has a good winning record on this particular day at Epsom.

13

Cold Fusion

From a stable that doesn't have many winners and this filly has won just one race from 27 starts. More positively she comes here in good form, only been beaten a neck in two recent starts both times when ridden by this talented claiming rider. But she was well beaten in a handicap at Lingfield on Thursday.
