St James's Palace Stakes V Form Comments

18/06/2018

G1 – 1594m – Turf

1

Chilean

Won G3 at Longchamp in April but this is surely a mountain too high.

2

Gabr

Trained with typical patience by Sir Michael Stoute. Progressive and did well to finish second to Without Parole from outside draw and from well back in Listed race at Sandown last month. Likely to improve.

3

Gustav Klimt

So far looks just short of G1 class. Creditable runs when sixth in G1 2000 Guineas and third in G1 Irish 2000 Guineas but needs more to win.

4

Kings Shield

Raised in class this year. After respectable sixth in G1 French 2000 Guineas was well beaten favourite in Listed race at Epsom earlier this month. Sweated and should do better on faster ground but will need to.

5

Romanised

The 25-1 surprise winner of the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas, with U S Navy Flag and Gustav Klimt behind him. Had decent Group level form last year. Suited by one mile on fast ground.

6

Threeandfourpence

Trips to Dubai and the USA this year proved fruitless but well thought of and did better when fourth to Romanised in G1 Irish 2000 Guineas. Needs to do a lot better still.

7

Tip Two Win

Trainer Roger Teal’s horses usually found in humbler races so a shock when Tip Two Win was second at 50-1 in the G1 2000 Guineas, with Derby winner Masar third. No fluke but stable out of form.

8

U S Navy Flag

Top class two-year-old who won G1 Middle Park and G1 Dewhurst Stakes but yet to strike this year. Second to Romanised in G1 Irish 2000 Guineas. Usually forces pace. Yet to prove stays 1600m.

9

Without Parole

Exciting son of Frankel, unbeaten and odds-on favourite in three runs so far, putting up good times. Won a strong Listed race from Gabr and expected to take step up to G1 level in his stride.

10

Wootton

Pulled too hard when fourth in G1 French 2000 Guineas, ahead of U S Navy Flag. Previously three from three. May prefer softer ground. Needs to settle better.
