Jockey Challenge - first fixed odds horse race bet type to be introduced on 20 April race meeting

10 April 2008

HKJC Horse Race Betting Limited will introduce a fixed odds horse race bet type, Jockey Challenge, starting from the race meeting on Sunday, 20 April.

First fixed odds horse race bet type

Jockey Challenge offers a fixed odds betting format, the first in Hong Kong's horse racing history.  Fixed odds means the odds for a bet will be fixed at the time the bet is accepted.  Once a bet is placed, the odds recorded on the ticket/betline will be final and will not be affected by any subsequent change in odds, unlike other currently available pari-mutuel horse race betting pools.

Betting format

Jockey Challenge will be offered for each day and night race meeting.  All jockeys participating in the local races in a race meeting will be numbered as 1 to 12.  Nos. 1 to 11 will be assigned to individual jockeys, while No. 12 will include the rest of the day's jockeys.

The winning jockey in each local race will earn 12 Jockey Challenge points, while the 2nd placed jockey will earn 6 points and the 3rd placed jockey will earn 4 points.  There will be no points for the rest of the positions.  Customers* who bet on the jockey earning the highest accumulated Jockey Challenge points in the whole race meeting will be eligible for a dividend.

Including the jockeys grouped under No. 12, all Jockey Challenge points will be counted on an individual basis.  If the jockey with the highest accumulated points of a race meeting is one of those included in No. 12, customers who bet on this number will be eligible for a dividend.

Dead Heat

Dead heat cases will be handled as follows:

Dead heat in a race

(Two jockeys in dead heat for example)

1st position

dead heat

  • No 2nd placing
  • Both jockeys in dead heat to share 18 points (12 + 6) originally assigned to 1st and 2nd placed jockeys, 9 points each
  • 4 points for 3rd placed jockey

2nd position

dead heat

  • No 3rd placing
  • 12 points for 1st place
  • Both jockeys in dead heat to share10 points (6 + 4) originally assigned to 2nd and 3rd placed jockeys, 5 points each

3rd position

dead heat

  • 12 points for 1st place
  • 6 points for 2nd place
  • Both jockeys in dead heat to share 4 points assigned to 3rd placed jockey, 2 points each

Same highest accumulated Jockey Challenge points in final results

  • If two or more jockeys collect the same highest total accumulated Jockey Challenge points in the day's final result, the one who attains the highest number of 1st placing will be the Jockey Challenge winner.  If the number of 1st placing is the same for these jockeys, the number of 2nd placing will be counted, and so forth to the last position.
  • If a winner cannot be identified down to the last placing, the dividend payout will be divided by the number of jockeys with the same highest total Jockey Challenge points and paid according to the proportions of the unit bet and odds of each winning bet.

Attachment 3

Void Races

Refund for cancelled or void races

When a race is declared void or cancelled, all bets on Jockey Challenge will be refunded.

Special occasions

If a jockey is certain to attain the highest accumulated total points under all circumstances when a race is declared void, dividend will be paid out on bets for that particular winning jockey.

For example, suppose there is one race remaining in a race meeting when a race is declared void:

Jockey A                Jockey B

48 points                22 points + 12 points = 34 points (assuming Jockey B won the remaining race)< /SPAN >

In this case, dividend will be paid to the bets for Jockey A because Jockey B could never have achieved more total points than Jockey A even if he had won in the last race.
