The glory is Sinndar's
Sinndar became the first horse ever
to win the English and Irish Derbies and complete it with
an Arc de Triomphe win in the same season with a heart-stopping
win in Paris on Sunday.
Sinndar quickened like the wind off
the fast pace set by his stablemate pacemaker, Raypour,
and once in front up the home straight it was always to take
a good one to beat him.
The defending champion, Montjeu, who
was expected to run a great race, was almost the first one
beaten in the straight. His clearly below-par run was by far
the most disappointing aspect of the race. He plugged on to
take fourth, seven lengths apart as a jubilant Johnny Murtagh
on Sinndar flashed past the post.
The fancied German colt, Samum, never landed
a blow and trailed in a well-beaten sixth.
Sinndar in the end held on by a comfortable
length-and-a-half from the fast-finishing Criquette Head-trained
filly, Egyptband. Volvoreta was another three
lengths behind in third.
