Bumper pay-day for Hill and Lai
A terrific finish of the National Day Cup
with no more than three lengths covering majority of the field
on line. The race went to Bumper Storm, who got the
verdict in a bob of double short heads from Trillion Win
and Citizen Kane.
It was easy to spot Bumper Storm's
rider Eddy Lai sitting as quiet as a church mouse on the outside
as they swung into the home straight. Lai kicked on for the
line at just the right time. This was Lai's first winner of
the current season and one of the biggest in his career. Inside
him, there were all sorts of traffic problems unfolding as
the field tightened up. Two horses which were particularly
well-placed with nowhere to go were Helene Express
and Billion Win.
Trillion Win's featherweight enabled
him to make the best lunge from the pack but it was the flutter
of a hummingbird's wing too late. Citizen Kane was
another short-head back in third.
