A terrific finish for the National Day Cup with no more than three lengths covering majority of the field. The race finally went to Bumper Storm, trained by David Hill and ridden by Eddy Lai. The six-year-old gelding crossed the line in the Premier class race with a double short head in front of Trillion Win and Citizen Kane.

In the Japan's Sprinters Stakes, the outsider Daitaku Yamato surprised almost everyone to hang on for a one-and-a-quarter-length victory. Hong Kong's runner Best Of The Best seemed unable to handle the undulating circuit and soft ground. He finished in 15th at Nakayama Racecourse.

Finally, Sinndar became the first horse ever to win both the English and Irish Derbies and complete with an Arc de Triomphe win in the same year. The favourite Montjeu ran a disappointing race and only managed to finish in a well-beaten 4th.
