HKIR News : Tracknotes (2) - Hong Kong Cup (Gr 1--2000m) HK$18 million (13/12/2001)
13 December 2001
SILVANO (GER)
There was a good atmosphere in the AP QEII
Cup winner's camp this morning. "I couldn't be happier with him,
he is a good weight and very happy in himself, the Ferrari has new tyres!"
said trainer Andreas Wohler after his globe trotter Sylvano did a light
canter on the dirt.
His race jockey, Andreas Suborics eulogised "I could not be happier
with him, seriously this horse is feeling fantastic."
BOCELLI and SADDLE UP (SIN)
The Singaporean challengers worked together
on the turf, with Olivier Peslier aboard the Laurie Laxon trained Saddle
Up. Peslier said: "He worked well, he's an aggressive horse. Working
with the other horse, he was always trying to take him on"
JIM AND TONIC (FR)
Thierry Thulliez was aboard Jim And Tonic for
a routine canter on the all weather track. Trainer Francois Doumen reported
his horse to be in fine form for his seventh appearance at Sha Tin. "He's
happy to be back, and he really seems to love it here. He'll do a little
more tomorrow."
TOBOUGG (UAE)
Godolphin's Tobougg was again on the grass
today but his workout over 1000 metres was rather stronger than yesterdays.
He changed his legs a couple of times as he motored down the straight
but his travelling head lad, Sam Avis, was not concerned: "He can
carry his head a bit high and is a bit awkward in his work. I think he
is the classiest horse of our three and ran a great race to be beaten
less than a length in the Champion Stakes. He will need a fast-run race
and I should think he will lie handy in the first three or four through
the early stages."
AGNES DIGITAL (JPN)
Trainer Toshiaki Shirai reported Agnes Digital
to be in great shape for Sunday's race. "Every thing has gone according
to plan with the horse and I am very happy with his condition. The track
will suit my horse, and all the Japanese runners. My only concern is the
pace in the race. Agnes Digital likes to come from behind, and with no
obvious pacesetter in the race, I hope that something will go on and set
a strong pace."
HAWKEYE (UK)
Hawkeye was out again under his regular work
rider Robert Patterson for a canter on the all weather, a pattern that
he has followed all week. Patterson described the horse as being "
very, very well". His trainer Michael Jarvis arrives in Hong Kong
on Friday.
TERRE A TERRE (FR)
Eric Libaud was on hand to see his charge do
little more than a hack canter on the all weather track. Libaud is concerned
that the journey has left his filly a little tired, and plans to give
her a little more time to get over the trip. He will probably give her
a little work tomorrow.
BACH (IRE)
Bach was out again for a routine canter on
the all weather, and looks to be going nicely in his build up to Sunday.
Less well is his trainer Aidan O'Brien, who is reportedly suffering from
'flu, and may not be fit enough to travel to Hong Kong.
MONARDS (HK)
"He worked really well on Wednesday
morning and we'll just keep him ticking over now. But he's got it all
to do in this company. I'll be over the moon if he picks up a cheque of
any kind" said trainer John Moore, who won this race before with
Motivation in 1993.
