Temporary closure of areas under renovation for facilities upgrade at racetracks

22 December 2001

An up-grade of facilities at Happy Valley and Sha Tin racetracks will involve the temporary closure of some areas to racegoers in the coming months.

The fourth and the fifth floors of the Public Stand at Happy Valley Racecourse will be closed to the public from December 24, 2001, while renovation work is undertaken, a spokesman for the Hong Kong Jockey Club said today.

The Mezzanine floor as well as confined areas on the Ground floor in Grandstand II of the Sha Tin Racecourse will also be closed from December 27, 2001, the spokesman added.

"This is part of our continuous effort to upgrade our racecourse facilities in order to bring more comfort to our customers," the spokesman said. Renovation work will be carried out immediately after the closure and is expected to be completed next summer.

High-grade audio-visual facilities and air-conditioning will be installed in the fourth and the fifth floors of the Public Stand at Happy Valley Racecourse and the Mezzanine floor of Grandstand II at Sha Tin Racecourse.

To cater for the needs of customers, a temporary catering facility will be provided in Grandstand II of Sha Tin Racecourse; Happy Valley racegoers are encouraged to use other floors of the Public Stand for betting facilities during the renovation period.
