APQEII Cup News: APQE II Cup hopeful Agnes Digital to fly in next week

3 April 2002

Japan's 2001 Hong Kong Cup winner Agnes Digital has come out well from its World Cup run in Dubai and is booked to fly into Hong Kong on April 11 to finish its preparations for the Audemars Piguet QE II Cup.

Agnes Digital finished sixth to Street Cry in the World Cup last month after a tiring flight from Japan. Connections have kept the horse in Dubai to minimise its travelling time prior to its attempt at another International Group 1 success in Hong Kong.

Its planned early arrival in Hong Kong will give it 10 days to acclimatise and prepare for its AP QE II Cup challenge.

Agnes Digital will again be ridden by Hirofumi Shii, who was aboard for both the World Cup and the Hong Kong Cup win in December.

Shii is currently eighth in the jockey's premiership in Japan and has already won three graded stakes this year. He scored his 700th Japan Racing Association victory aboard Agnes Digital in the February Stakes in Tokyo.

Reports from Japan say the other Japanese runner in the Cup, five-year-old Eishin Preston, is going well in training since finishing fifth in the Group 2 Nakayama Kinen in February.

In the AP QE II, Eishin Preston will again be ridden by Yuichi Fukunaga, who rode it to victory in December's Hong Kong Mile.
