Form comments for newly selected horses

Idol (NZ) ch g 1996
Masterclass (USA) - Venetian Court (NZ) by Pompeii Court (USA)
Trainer: David Oughton
Owner: Wong Chi--muk
Current International Rating: 101
Formerly trained in New Zealand where he finished third in the 1999 NZ Derby to Helene Vitality (formerly Hades). Idol has won twice in Hong Kong from 16 starts. He has chosen his wins well, however, landing the Group 2 Queen Mother's Cup over 2400m on a yielding track in June 2000 and making all to land a shock 50/1 success in the Group 1 Hong Kong Gold Cup in March of last year. His form since then has been fair only with his best recent effort arriving three starts back when he finished sixth, beaten 2½ lengths by Rainbow And Gold, in the Group 3 Centenary Vase over 2000m.

Precision (FR) gr g 1998
Anabaa (USA) - Stop Fiddling (IRE) by Welsh Term (IRE)
Trainer: David Oughton
Owner: Wu Sai-wing
Current International Rating: 105
The Hong Kong Derby runner-up on his latest start, beaten 3½ lengths by Olympic Express, Precision has raced eight times this season for three wins, three seconds, one third and one fourth place. Improved each time he stepped up from 1400m to 1800m as he climbed through the ranks and the Derby was his first time trying the 2000m AP QEII distance. May still have further improvement to come. Usually races off the pace.

Reserve
Dashing Winner (NZ) ch g 1998
Deputy Governor (USA) - Double Liz (USA) by Nodouble (USA)
Trainer: Peter Ng Bik-kuen
Owner: Joseph Choi Yip-leung
Current International Rating: 103
Very tough and versatile between 1000m and 2000m on turf and dirt this term with three wins and four minor placings to his credit from ten starts. On his first run beyond 1400m, he finished a very good third, beaten 4¾ lengths by Olympic Express, in the Hong Kong Derby despite racing freely through the early stages. Had earlier won three consecutive races (two over 1400m and one at 1000m). Last time out he finished 2 lengths fifth to Master Fay over 1400m.
