APQEII Cup News : Trainer and Jockey Quotes
21 April 2002
Toshiaki Shirai - Trainer ( Agnes Digital)
- 2nd - My horse has given everything, but that's racing for you. After
his trip to Dubai, perhaps my horse was only at about 90% of his best, but
he has run very well in finishing second. He will be back.
Douglas Whyte (Cheers Hong Kong) - 6th - He ran a good race we
had no excuses.
Yuichi Fukunaga (Eishin Preston) - Winner - The early pace was
slow, but it picked up in the final part of the race. I thought I would
win at the head of the straight, but in the last hundred metres I was
worried that Agnes Digital might beat me.
Frankie Dettori (Grandera) -5th -He has run OK. He came round the
bend nice and steady and I said let's go and he hit the front but then
he got tired and his head came up. Maybe he is just a race short of his
best.
David Hayes (Trainer Helene Vitality) - 13th
- The draw was as I feared and he could not get across fast enough before
the turn. We will just have to throw out that race, and he will be back
for the Chaters.
Craig Williams ( Idol) -14th - He ran as well
as he could for a long way, but these are world class horses.
Felix Coetzee (Indigenous) - 3rd- He's a terrific
horse, who keeps giving it. He showed his class today. I followed the
winner, but he just had more pace.
Olivier Doleuze ( Okawango) - 10th - "He
ran a little bit free early, and a little more pace would have been better,
but I had him where I wanted, and he has ran well- he just got tired at
the end
Weichong Marwing (Olympic Express) - 8th -He
ran well but this was a big step up in class. He did not have any problems
in the run but just finished a bit one-paced. He had not had many races
and I know next season we will have a very good horse.
Simon H K Yim (Precision) - 7th -He ran well.
I thought I might run into the prizemoney at one point but he was just
a little tired. He has had a long season.
Gerald Mosse (Rainbow and Gold) - 12th -He was
never really going today.
Eric Legrix ( Rebel Leader) -11th -He was wide
but he was going OK into the straight and then at about 200 metres he
hit a wall.
Justin Sheehan ( Universal Prince) - 4th -I
came there to win but at 200 metres he hit a brick wall. I feel frustrated
for the horse but having said that he's just run a blinding race.
Davy Bonilla ( Lethals Lady) -9th - We had trouble
in running. I was blocked coming round the turn and I was blocked again
at 200 metres but she's finished well.
