Happy Valley Million Challenge continues Saturday

24 October 2003

The Happy Valley Million Challenge continues this Saturday, 25 October with races 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 included in the challenge series. Among the horses declared to run in these five races, 12 have already earned points in the series.

The feature race of the day is Race 9, the Po Leung Kuk Centenary Cup, a Class 2 event over 1650m carrying HK$1,000,000 prize money. DASHING CHAMPION, trained by B K Ng, now tops the list of HVMC with 24 points and surely will be one of the contestant in this race. Dr Jimmy C H Wong, Chairman of the Board of Po Leung Kuk, will present the trophy and a miniature to the winning owner.

Early points winners proved the horses to follow at the recent Happy Valley meeting last Wednesday, 22 October when there were three Challenge races. Seven of the runners that competed had already won points and produced a winners and two thirds that night.

The Po Leung Kuk Centenary Cup was donated by the Directors of the Po Leung Kuk in 1978 to celebrate the Kuk's centenary and to show their appreciation of the charitable support and friendship shown to them over many years by The Hong Kong Jockey Club. The race was first run on 11 February 1978 and has since been competed for annually.
