Runners with points in HVMC produced brilliant performances
16 November 2003
Runners
with points in the inaugural Happy
Valley Million Challenge have produced brilliant performances in the
recent Happy Valley race meetings, such as Dashing Champion, Grand
Fighter and Amo and this is proving a good guide studying the
form for the Challenge races.
In the most recent HV meeting on November 4, the points-earners
just about dominated the three Challenge races that night. Sixteen runners
with points produced three winners, two seconds and two thirds, while
six of them dominated the first three positions in Races 8 and 9 respectively.
Horses that had previously won points in HVMC also
proved the ones to follow at Happy Valley on October 29 when there were
three Challenge races. Nine HVMC runners with points produced two winners,
a second and a third that night, while four runners grabbed the first
four positions in Race 6.
With twenty-five point earners competing in six races
totally for these two race meetings, they resulted in five wins, three
seconds, three thirds, three fourths and two fifths, accounting for 20%
and 44% of winning and placing rates respectively.

HVMC top five contenders have a relatively high strike
rate too. Four leaders carrying the yellow saddlecloth out of a total
six outings produced a winner, two thirds, a fourth and a fifth.
The Happy Valley Million Challenge, a contest for the
best-performed horse at the Happy Valley track for Class Three events
or above from September 1 to December 31, is nearly two-thirds completed,
with only five HV race meetings left. Those hoping to win the Million
Challenge must seize every chance in the remaining Valley programmes.
The Peter Ng Bik-kuen-trained Dashing Champion
leads the race for the HK$1 million bonus with 40 points after three victories
and a third placing at the course, while Grand Fighter from the
same stable is in second position with 30 points. Theoretically, runners
with more than 16 points still hold a chance of being crowned the overall
champion.
