A Cheering Team formed by local racing fans departs for Japan this morning. The sixty members of the team will give on-course support to the Hong Kong team in the Yasuda Kinen (Gr.1 - 1600M) tomorrow at Tokyo Racecourse.
The tour is organised by the Hong Thai Travel Services Limited with the support of the Hong Kong Commercial Broadcasting Company Limited, the co-organiser, and the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
Bullish Luck, Silent Witness and Bowman's Crossing, the winner, runner-up and 4th placegetter in the Champions Mile on May 14, will compete in the Yasuda Kinen, the second leg of the inaugural Asian Mile Challenge at Tokyo Racecourse on Sunday, 5 June 2005.
Hong Kong horses have a good record in the Yasuda Kinen (Japan Gr.1-1600m). The big-odds victory of Fairy King Prawn in the race thrilled Japan racing on June 4, 2000 when the Hong Kong champion became the first local-trained horse to won an overseas Group 1 race. Earlier, in June 1998, Oriental Express ran second in the race, just defeated by the Japanese champion Taiki Shuttle.
