Vote for HKJC Equestrian Team Members in the ''Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards 2008''

2 January 2009

Year 2008 marked a historic time for the development of equestrian sports in Hong Kong with the successful staging of the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events in Hong Kong and the city's first-ever Olympic Equestrian Team being among the participants.  In recognition of their wonderful performance in the Olympics, our local riders have been nominated for the team section voting of the Hong Kong Sports Stars Award 2008, organised by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.

The Hong Kong Sports Stars Award 2008 aims to recognise and encourage athletes and teams to strive for excellence, as well as provide role models and inspiration for Hong Kong's young people, so helping to promote sports development in Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Olympic Equestrian Team comprised Samantha Lam, Patrick Lam and Kenneth Cheng, all three of whom are also members of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Equestrian Team.  Under the Club's sponsorship, Hong Kong had its first-ever equestrian team competing in the first Olympics held on Chinese soil.  The team was nominated for the award by the Hong Kong Equestrian Federation, based on its outstanding performance in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Equestrian Events.

There are a total of 16 teams nominated for the team section, and the equestrian team needs our valuable patronage.  Our support will also inspire the team to strive for qualifying for the 2010 Asian Games and even the London 2012 Olympics.

The public voting period runs from now until 18 January, so please don't miss the chance to support our equestrian team by casting your vote online at http://sportstar2008.hkolympic.org.  Let's spring to action and give them our support!
