BOSSIEE (Apprentice M F Poon) began very awkwardly and then blundered a short distance after the start when bumped by SPORTS MASTER which was taken out by PICK NUMBER ONE. This resulted in BOSSIEE losing ground. Apprentice Poon stated that after being badly hampered on jumping, the horse became somewhat detached from the field primarily due to the solid tempo of the race in the early stages. He said he niggled at BOSSIEE in order to have it make up lost ground, however, BOSSIEE took some time to be able to improve its position to join the field. He said then in the Straight BOSSIEE closed off strongly. Apprentice Poon was advised that whilst the Stewards acknowledged that BOSSIEE was badly hampered on jumping and that the tempo in the early stages was good, nonetheless he was told to make every endeavour to ensure that his mounts do not get too far out of their ground in their races.
GREAT SON shifted in at the start and bumped HIGH VOLATILITY.
From wide barriers, ADONIS and GRADE ONE were steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, SPORTS MASTER was hampered when bumped by GREAT SON which was taken in by BETTER CHOICE which was in turn taken in by NICE KICK (J Moreira) which shifted in when not properly clear. ADONIS, which was following GREAT SON, was awkwardly placed close to that horse in consequence.

Making the first turn near the 750 Metres, HIGH FIVE and IRON BOY were crowded for room inside SUPER MAN which shifted in after being bumped by KING MORTAR (T Berry). T Berry was severely reprimanded.
When questioned, Apprentice M F Poon (JOYFUL MOMENTS) stated that in the early part of the Straight his mount lay in under pressure and for this reason he stopped riding and corrected JOYFUL MOMENTS after the 200 Metres. He said after correcting the horse, he continued to test JOYFUL MOMENTS, however, the horse continued to lay in under pressure and shifted in over the concluding stages, resulting in the horse being awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUPER MAN. He said because of this he was not able to ride JOYFUL MOMENTS out over the concluding stages.
When questioned, Apprentice H T Mo (SUNNY WIN) stated that it was intended for the horse to race behind the speed. He said he rode SUNNY WIN aggressively in the early stages, however, the horse did not show any early speed and got much further out of its ground than had been anticipated. He said when required to race back in the field, SUNNY WIN appeared to resent the kickback and did not travel at any stage of the race. He added he was always required to ride the horse along to make up lost ground, however, at no stage of the race did SUNNY WIN respond to his riding and finished at the tail of the field. Trainer L Ho was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of SUNNY WIN. He said the horse had done very well in the lead up to the race and he expected it to perform well. Mr Ho confirmed that he asked for the horse to be ridden behind the leaders if possible, but SUNNY WIN clearly did not show sufficient speed to be able to take advantage of its inside barrier. He said having regard to the fact that SUNNY WIN had been successful in a number of its races when drawn wide barriers, he is of the belief that the horse may be more suited by outside draws rather than inside barriers as this gives the horse the opportunity not to be crossed in the early stages and rather is able to work its way forward. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SUNNY WIN, a favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUNNY WIN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of KING MORTAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

K Teetan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 10 December 2017 and to expire on Thursday, 14 December 2017 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). General

1. 19 November 2017 Sha Tin Racemeeting – Race 9 (207)

The Stewards today questioned Mr P F Yiu regarding the improved performance of HAPPY AGILITY. Mr Yiu stated that the horse had done well after its previous start, which was disappointing, and it was for this reason that he raced the horse so soon after its last run. He said whilst HAPPY AGILITY was down to Class 3 for this run, he did not expect it to be a winning hope as the horse had performed disappointingly up in grade at its previous start. He said the only reasons he could offer to explain the horse’s improved performance was the fact that it was down in grade and racing late that day the track may have been a little more forgiving which may have suited HAPPY AGILITY.

2.

Trainer T P Yung was fined the sum of $7,500 for breaching Track Work Regulations in that MY CHAMPION (A382) had cotton wool applied under the bandages when that horse was worked on Monday, 20 November 2017. In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into consideration that this was the second occasion that Mr Yung had been penalized for breaching this Track Work Regulation.

4.

Racing Laboratory tests of KIM GLORY, IDYLLIC WIND, RAICHU, SPICY DOUBLE, SMART SALUTE, GOLDINGTON HORN, PLANET STAR, PHANTOM FALCON, BOND ELEGANCE, LETSGOFREE, DARING HEART, NEVER BETTER, EXCEPTIONAL DESIRE, CONFUCIUS SPIRIT, SHOW MISSION, KEEP MOVING, MONEY BOY, TOP LAURELS, SUPER FORM, LUCKY GIRL and BIG BANG BON (15.11.17) proved negative.
