Race:1 (687) SILVERMINE BAY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1200 m

M REBORN began only fairly and then was crowded for room between CORRE RAPIDO and TRENDIFUL, both of which shifted ground.
SPARKLING TALENT began awkwardly and then despite being hard ridden in the early stages failed to muster speed and subsequently was detached from the field in the early and middle stages.
At the 800 Metres, REGENCY HONEY (U Rispoli) shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of M REBORN, resulting in REGENCY HONEY becoming badly unbalanced. U Rispoli reported that REGENCY HONEY, despite being ridden along in the early stages, failed to stretch out as the horse got its head up when resenting the kickback.
Near the 650 Metres, MASSIVE MILLENNIUM was awkwardly placed behind ROCHFORD.
Passing the winning post, N Callan (CORRE RAPIDO) dropped his whip.
Throughout the race, ROCHFORD travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, D Whyte reported that M REBORN was making an abnormal respiratory noise during the race. A veterinary inspection of M REBORN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of FORTUNE BROTHERS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HAPPY SOUND, MASSIVE MILLENNIUM and SKY TREASURE were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (688) PUI O HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1800 m

MEGATRON stumbled at the start.
HAY RUN was crowded for room shortly after the start between GOOD FIT which shifted in when being steadied to obtain cover and PLAY IT which shifted out.
Despite being hard ridden in the early stages, LET US WIN (J Moreira) failed to muster speed. After the race, J Moreira stated that at no stage of the race did LET US WIN travel comfortably. A veterinary inspection of LET US WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, CLOUD NINE failed to muster speed and was left racing wide and without cover. CLOUD NINE was then allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead after the 1200 Metres.
After initially being ridden along, RIGHTEOUS MATE was steadied approaching the 1500 Metres to obtain a position with cover.
After the 1400 Metres, MONEY WINNER raced tight inside FURIOUS PEGASUS (C Schofield) which shifted in when not properly clear. C Schofield was advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground.
Near the 1250 Metres, LET US WIN was awkwardly placed behind SUPER LUCKY.
After the 1200 Metres, RIGHTEOUS MATE was taken wider and without cover when HAY RUN shifted to the outside of PLAY IT.
After the 800 Metres, HAY RUN was left racing wide and without cover.
Near the 750 Metres, MONEY WINNER shifted out, resulting in PLAY IT being taken out and bumping GOOD FIT.
Rounding the Home Turn, SUPER LUCKY was awkwardly placed behind MONEY WINNER.
Approaching the 100 Metres, GOOD FIT was shifted out away from the heels of PLAY IT which drifted out under pressure.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FURIOUS PEGASUS, C Schofield stated that although his mount felt somewhat restricted in its action during its preliminary, the horse had warmed up well and he was satisfied with its action by the time he arrived at the start. He said FURIOUS PEGASUS travelled well after being able to obtain a good position behind the lead. He said however that after shifting FURIOUS PEGASUS towards the outside of CLOUD NINE passing the 500 Metres, FURIOUS PEGASUS did not quicken as it had in the past. He said when placed under pressure in the Straight, FURIOUS PEGASUS’ stride shortened noticeably and the horse did not feel comfortable in its action over the latter stages of the race. He added after the race when returning to the unplaced saddling area, FURIOUS PEGASUS continued to feel uncomfortable in its action although he was not able to identify any specific lameness issues. A veterinary inspection of FURIOUS PEGASUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, FURIOUS PEGASUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of GOOD FIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CLOUD NINE and HAY RUN were sent for sampling.
<31/5/2018 Additional Veterinary Report>LET US WIN, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. LET US WIN was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Moore this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, LET US WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
FURIOUS PEGASUS, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. FURIOUS PEGASUS was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer F C Lor this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg and had a very stiff and restricted action. As previously advised, FURIOUS PEGASUS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.

Race:3 (689) HAP MUN BAY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

DOUBLE DOWN and STAR SUPERIOR bumped at the start.
LUCKY COIN began awkwardly.
Passing the 1000 Metres, AMAZING MOMENT was awkwardly placed inside the heels of HAPPY METEOR (Apprentice H N Wong) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice Wong was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
When racing tight inside BOND ELEGANCE which got its head on the side and lay in away from AMAZING MOMENT, MUTUAL JOY lost ground passing the 900 Metres after becoming unbalanced when reluctant to maintain its position inside BOND ELEGANCE.
SHIMMER AND SHINE lost its right hind plate passing the 900 Metres.
Making the turn near the 700 Metres, BOND ELEGANCE was awkwardly placed behind HAPPY METEOR.
After racing tight inside SHIMMER AND SHINE passing the 300 Metres, BOND ELEGANCE got its head on the side and lay in behind HAPPY METEOR passing the 200 Metres.
Throughout the race, SHIMMER AND SHINE travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, K C Leung (BORNTOACHIEVE) stated that after showing early speed, BORNTOACHIEVE travelled only fairly during the middle stages and after coming under pressure rounding the Home Turn weakened badly in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of BORNTOACHIEVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN EFFORT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SHIMMER AND SHINE and AMAZING MOMENT were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (690) HAP MUN BAY HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

MANFUL STAR began very awkwardly and lost ground.
MAJESTIC ENDEAVOUR began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped MASSIVE MOVE, resulting in MAJESTIC ENDEAVOUR becoming unbalanced and losing ground. MAJESTIC ENDEAVOUR, from a wide barrier, was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
FOREVER POSH and MASSIVE MOVE bumped on jumping.
STARTLING POWER shifted in at the start and bumped DR PROACTIVE, causing both horses to become unbalanced. After this, STARTLING POWER was vigorously ridden, however, failed to muster speed.
A short distance after the start, ALPHA HEDGE shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of FOREVER POSH.
M L Yeung (MASSIVE MOVE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 700 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of GRAND HARBOUR, causing that horse to be checked and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. LEVANTE, which was following GRAND HARBOUR, was hampered in consequence and shifted out to avoid the heels of that horse, resulting in STARTLING POWER being taken wider. After this, STARTLING POWER travelled wide and without cover. M L Yeung was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Monday, 11 June 2018 and to expire on Sunday, 17 June 2018 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Yeung’s good race riding record.
Approaching the 100 Metres, FOREVER POSH was shifted to the outside of MASSIVE MOVE to continue improving.
A veterinary inspection of STARTLING POWER, MANFUL STAR and MASSIVE MOVE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GRAND HARBOUR, DR PROACTIVE and FLYING GODSPELL were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (691) KIU TSUI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

GRAN MASTER began only fairly.
OPEN HOUSE shifted out at the start and bumped TELECOM MAN which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of HOUSE OF LUCK.
From wide barriers, ELUSIVE STATE and TRIUMPH were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages, CHATER THUNDER was slow to muster speed and passing the winning post on the first occasion was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, STARLIT KNIGHT was momentarily awkwardly placed behind TELECOM MAN when being shifted across behind that horse.
Approaching the 1200 Metres, GRAN MASTER (N Callan) commenced to race ungenerously and got its head up on a number of occasions. GRAN MASTER then continued to travel keenly and passing the 800 Metres again got its head up on a number of occasions when VICTORY FOLLOW ME improved to its outside. N Callan stated that having regard to the manner in which GRAN MASTER raced in the middle stages, he suggested to connections that they consider changing the head gear carried by GRAN MASTER in an endeavour to have the horse settle better in its races.
GOUTEN OF GARO lost its left front plate after the 1000 Metres.
STARLIT KNIGHT lost its right front plate after the 800 Metres.
Approaching the 600 Metres, MASTER BERNINI raced in restricted room inside DIAMOND FRIENDS which shifted in marginally.
At the entrance to the Straight, VICTORY FOLLOW ME was bumped by CHATER THUNDER which shifted out before being directed back in to relieve the pressure to VICTORY FOLLOW ME. This resulted in CHATER THUNDER being awkwardly placed close to the heels of GRAN MASTER for a short distance passing the 300 Metres.
Passing the 200 Metres, DIAMOND FRIENDS and GRAN MASTER raced tight.
For the majority of the race, VICTORY FOLLOW ME travelled wide and without cover and passing the 800 Metres was bumped by MARVEL JOY which shifted out. VICTORY FOLLOW ME then gave ground in the Straight.
A veterinary inspection of STARLIT KNIGHT and VICTORY FOLLOW ME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MASTER BERNINI, HOUSE OF LUCK and MARVEL JOY were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (692) CAFETERIA HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

MIDNIGHT RATTLER stumbled at the start.
WAKEY shifted in abruptly at the start and bumped NUCLEAR POWER which lost ground when crowded for room outside MIDNIGHT RATTLER.
SOLOMON’S BAY shifted in at the start and bumped INFINITY ENDEAVOUR.
Despite being hard ridden in the early stages, SUNNY WIN failed to muster speed.
From wide barriers, KEY WITNESS and RADIANT STEED were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 700 Metres, GOLDEN SUN was left racing wide and without cover.
WAKEY made the first turn near the 700 Metres awkwardly, shifted out and inconvenienced INFINITY ENDEAVOUR. After this, WAKEY continued to lay out and passing the 600 Metres was checked away from the heels of MIDNIGHT RATTLER which was giving ground.
After the race, S Clipperton (MIDNIGHT RATTLER) stated that after being crossed by ALMABABY after the 800 Metres, his mount resented the kickback and did not stretch out for the remainder of the race. The performances of MIDNIGHT RATTLER and WAKEY, both of which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MIDNIGHT RATTLER and WAKEY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of RADIANT STEED immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, RADIANT STEED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of SUNNY WIN and MIDNIGHT RATTLER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of WAKEY immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained minor cuts to the inside of the left hind fetlock.
INFINITY ENDEAVOUR and ALMABABY were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (693) CHEUNG SHA HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

On arrival at the Start, T Berry expressed concern regarding the action of LUCKY DOLLAR. LUCKY DOLLAR was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was lame in its right front leg and accordingly was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, LUCKY DOLLAR was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY DOLLAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Shortly after the start, MASSIVE POCKET and GO PUBLIC bumped, resulting in MASSIVE POCKET becoming unbalanced.
From wide barriers, BEAUTY ENERGY and GENEROUS HEART were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Making the first turn near the 700 Metres, BEAUTY ENERGY got its head on the side and lay in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HEARTS KEEPER. BEAUTY ENERGY then lay out making the turn after the 600 Metres.
Shortly after entering the Straight, STORM SIGNAL shifted in and bumped GO PUBLIC.
After the 50 Metres, STORM SIGNAL was momentarily awkwardly placed outside the heels of GO PUBLIC which drifted out under pressure.
When questioned, K C Ng (POSITIVELY HIGH) stated that after shifting his mount across towards the rail to follow MR PICASSO, he niggled POSITIVELY HIGH along in an endeavour to make up ground behind that horse after the 1000 Metres. He said near the 900 Metres he noticed the rider of ALL BEST FRIENDS looking to shift in in front of POSITIVELY HIGH and behind MR PICASSO. He said he believed he would have had to ride POSITIVELY HIGH aggressively in an endeavour to prevent ALL BEST FRIENDS from shifting in at this time and therefore he allowed ALL BEST FRIENDS to obtain the position in front of POSITIVELY HIGH as at this time he was racing in excess of a length behind that horse. K C Ng was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he was told to ensure that he always rides his mounts in such a manner so as to obtain advantageous positions.
A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY ENERGY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SPEEDY KING and GO PUBLIC were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (694) CLEAR WATER BAY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1650 m

ROYAL PERFORMER began awkwardly and lost ground.
TURIN PEARL shifted out at the start and inconvenienced GLORIOUS ARTIST.
Shortly after the start, HANG’S DECISION and TRAVEL FIRST bumped, causing TRAVEL FIRST to become unbalanced.
From wide barriers, QUICK RETURN and PENANG HALL were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
NAVAS lost its left front plate approaching the winning post on the first occasion.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, REMARKABLE was crowded for room between BIZ POWER which shifted in marginally and ZILONG which got its head on the side and shifted out away from TRAVEL FIRST which itself shifted out marginally.
Making the turn after passing the winning post on the first occasion, RED MARVEL lay in and bumped NAVAS, causing RED MARVEL to become unbalanced due to the contact on its hindquarters.
After the 1300 Metres, QUICK RETURN proved very difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed behind REMARKABLE and BIZ POWER.
RED MARVEL travelled wide and without cover until passing the 800 Metres at which time NAVAS was left racing wide and without cover.
Near the 250 Metres, HANG’S DECISION was shifted into a tight run inside WHAMPOA STAR in order to obtain clear running.
ZILONG had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 100 Metres.
Near the 75 Metres, TRAVEL FIRST raced in restricted room when endeavouring to improve between GLORIOUS ARTIST and REMARKABLE.
A veterinary inspection of BIZ POWER immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, BIZ POWER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of TURIN PEARL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GLORIOUS ARTIST and HANG’S DECISION were sent for sampling.

Subsequent official veterinary inspections (without endoscopy) of ROMANTIC BONANZA, SUPER MODEL, GOKO, TRIUMPHANT JEWEL, SUNNY POWER, HEROIC GURU, WINNER’S WAY, BORN IN CHINA, HAVE FUN TOGETHER, HONEST WAY, REGENCY DARLING, EMERALD SPUR, EXPERTO CREDE, EMPIRE STAR, CONSORT, GLORIOUS FOREVER, PAKISTAN STAR, EXULTANT, RAGING STORM, CALIFORNIA ARCHER, SACRED IBIS, CALIFORNIA JOY, HEZTHEWONFORUS, RATTAN and WORLD RECORD revealed no apparent abnormality.
