| At declaration time, W Pike was declared as the rider of both BAYVIEW GREYSLEW and ACTUARIAL TALENT. It was established that W Pike had a firm commitment to ride ACTUARIAL TALENT. As such, the Stewards permitted Z Purton to be substituted as the rider of BAYVIEW GREYSLEW. For this declaration error, Trainer T K Ng was fined $2,000. LADY FIRST and ACTUARIAL TALENT were slow to begin. At the 1100 Metres, FANTASTIC TIME was steadied away from the heels of COOL RUNNINGS (B Prebble) which when racing awkwardly shifted in. B Prebble was reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground. For some distance after this, FANTASTIC TIME raced keenly, causing AURELIAN which was following to be steadied. ACTUARIAL TALENT made the turn at the 800 Metres awkwardly and became unbalanced. In the middle stages, SHINING DRAGON hung out. At the 600 Metres, ACTUARIAL TALENT, which was racing keenly, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BAYVIEW GREYSLEW. For some distance after straightening, KIMBERLEY had difficulty obtaining clear running. Near the 250 Metres, FANTASTIC TIME was checked to avoid the heels of ACTUARIAL TALENT (W Pike) which shifted out when not properly clear. W Pike was severely reprimanded and told he would be expected to exercise greater care when shifting ground. AURELIAN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of AURELIAN after the race did not show any significant findings. WINNING AHEAD, BAYVIEW GREYSLEW and ACTUARIAL TALENT were sent for sampling. |

| STAY YOUNG was withdrawn on 30.6.09 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore right fore suspensory) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter A WALK IN THE PARK (D Whyte). JUNGLE TREASURE began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. AMBITIOUS TREASURE began awkwardly and lost ground. A WALK IN THE PARK and WINNING STRATEGY were slow into stride. Approaching the 1000 Metres, A WALK IN THE PARK, which had begun to race ungenerously, got its head up and hung in. Passing the 1000 Metres, AMBITIOUS TREASURE was checked away from the heels of WINNING STRATEGY, then commencing to make the turn at the 800 Metres got its head up, shifted out and blundered when awkwardly placed close to the heels of A WALK IN THE PARK. In the middle stages, A WALK IN THE PARK raced greenly. For some distance after the 600 Metres, TREASURE RAIDERS was steadied away from the heels of JUNGLE TREASURE, then near the 200 Metres when experiencing difficulty obtaining clear running was checked and shifted to the inside of SOU MA TAM which was giving ground. At the 400 Metres, ENCOSTA DON, which was endeavouring to find clear running, was steadied away from the heels of AMBITIOUS TREASURE. Approaching the 200 Metres, ENCOSTA DON was hampered when bumped by JUNGLE TREASURE which shifted in. At the 150 Metres, JUNGLE TREASURE, which was giving ground, was steadied when awkwardly placed between WIN-A-LOT and ENCOSTA DON (D Beadman) which shifted out momentarily. D Beadman was told to exercise greater care. Throughout the race, WIN-A-LOT travelled wide and without cover. B Doyle (WIN-A-LOT), 6th placegetter, was reminded of his responsibility to ride his mounts out fully to the end of the race where circumstances permit. B Prebble (SOU MA TAM), which performed poorly, reported his mount felt today’s firmer track conditions and because of this did not stride out as it normally does. When questioned regarding the improved performance of BE MY SONG, Trainer C W Chang said as he had explained previously he was concerned the horse since joining his stable had been making use of itself in the early stages of its races and as a consequence failed to finish the races off. He said because of this last start he elected to step BE MY SONG up in distance to 1400 Metres and have the horse ridden more patiently from a wide gate in an endeavour to have it close the race off. He said on that occasion BE MY SONG again failed to finish off after travelling keenly in the early stages due to the tempo of the race. He said because of this he decided to drop BE MY SONG back in distance for today’s race to 1200 Metres in an endeavour to find a more genuine tempo which would allow BE MY SONG to relax. He said today he had instructed P H Lo to allow the horse to begin, not ride it along in the early stages, but rather allow it to travel where it was relaxed in an endeavour to have the horse breathe properly. He said after beginning well BE MY SONG was able to obtain a position outside the lead without being made use of. He said he believed the improved performance of BE MY SONG was because it was able to travel kindly in the race and consequently was able to finish the race off. SOU MA TAM was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SOU MA TAM after the race did not show any significant findings. BE MY SONG and A WALK IN THE PARK were sent for sampling. |

LIVERBIRD was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said after consulting with the jockey the horse was suitable to race. ALGARVE began awkwardly. OASIS DAVIS was slow into stride. Shortly after the start, MAGIC J became badly unbalanced, causing S K Sit, its rider, to be almost dislodged after being bumped by GOLDEN BOY which was carried out by FUJIAN PRINCE which on jumping was carried wider by BRAVE SPIRIT. Approaching the 1500 Metres, FUJIAN PRINCE was checked when crowded for room inside GOLDEN BOY which had been hanging in and at this time shifted in away from TOUCH LUCKY. No action was taken. Passing the 300 Metres, BRAVE SPIRIT, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, shifted out and bumped with O’REILLY MAGIC. Near the 200 Metres, DECAGONAL was steadied when awkwardly placed between ALGARVE which shifted in and O’REILLY MAGIC which was bumped and carried wider by BRAVE SPIRIT. In the run to the line, BRAVE SPIRIT hung out. Y T Cheng (LUCKY MONEY) reported at no stage of the race did his mount stride out, commenced to give ground prior to straightening and finished tailed out. LUCKY MONEY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY MONEY after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of LUCKY MONEY was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY MONEY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ALGARVE and BRAVE SPIRIT were sent for sampling. |

| SUPREME DRAGON and LUCKY DRAGON were difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, SUPREME DRAGON and LUCKY DRAGON will both have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. Prior to the start being effected, MAGNANIMOUS became fractious and got its head up and over the front gates of its stall. This was rectified before the start was effected. MAGNANIMOUS was slow to begin. On jumping, ROYAL DOMAIN was taken back. At the 800 Metres, LUCKY DRAGON was checked to avoid the heels of WINNER which was reluctant to hold its position when racing tight inside TELECOM GOGO. Also at the 800 Metres, SUPREME DRAGON, which was travelling keenly, was steadied away from the heels of TELECOM GOGO. At the 300 Metres, LUCKY DRAGON was steadied away from the heels of SUPREME DRAGON which was drifting out. When questioned, K T Yeung (SPARKLING) said the horse performed well at its most recent start when travelling in a rearward position from an inside barrier. He said on that occasion he had been instructed to ride SPARKLING in midfield, however, the circumstances of the race meant the horse travelled further back than was intended. He said today from the outside barrier he was again asked to ride SPARKLING in a midfield position with cover if possible. He said SPARKLING began well and he initially rode the horse along to ensure he did not get too far back. He said passing the 1200 Metres when it became apparent to him that he was going to be left racing wide on the track without cover, he continued to ride SPARKLING along to cross REGENCY KINGDOM which was racing to his inside. He said near the 1100 Metres he shifted across to be in a three wide position without cover and then steadied his mount to allow it to travel comfortably. He said in the Straight SPARKLING failed to finish the race off. SPARKLING and ROYAL DOMAIN were sent for an official veterinary inspection. On straightening, FORTUNE DRAGON became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by GALLANT MASTER which shifted out in an endeavour to obtain clear running. At the 250 Metres, ON SHAN BRAVE was bumped and carried wider by CARRY GOOD NEWS which improved into a narrow run on its inside. At the 100 Metres, ON SHAN BRAVE, which was giving ground, was momentarily steadied when awkwardly placed between RAIN OF THUNDER and CARRY GOOD NEWS which drifted wider. When questioned regarding the poor performance of JOLLY WONGCHOY, K T Yeung said he was instructed to go forward and lead if possible. He said in the early stages of the race the tempo was solid and because of this he was required to make use of his mount to obtain a forward position and to be able to cross to avoid being caught wide. He said as a consequence JOLLY WONGCHOY failed to finish the race off. JOLLY WONGCHOY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of JOLLY WONGCHOY after the race did not show any significant findings. RAIN OF THUNDER, EVER KING and CARRY GOOD NEWS were sent for sampling. |

| TRULLI was slow to begin and on jumping shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of EASY AHEAD. On jumping, SUPER GENERAL was taken back from a wide barrier. Near the 1000 Metres, FLYING CHINA was steadied away from the heels of EASY AHEAD. Apprentice T H So (EASY AHEAD) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the turn at the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of CHARMGOLD, causing that horse to be carried in and cause crowding on its inside to ALWAYS SOMETHING which as a result was badly hampered, lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled and checked which in turn caused crowding on its inside to SUPER CHARGE. Bearing in mind the circumstances of Apprentice So, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was that he be fined the sum of $10,000 in lieu of a period of suspension which would incorporate two Hong Kong racedays. In the middle stages, MEDIC FORTUNE hung out and near the 700 Metres was checked away from the heels of TRULLI. Shortly after straightening, Apprentice M Chadwick (ARROGANT DRAGON) momentarily dropped his right rein. At the 300 Metres, AMNESTY was momentarily steadied away from the heels of TRULLI. Passing the 100 Metres, FLYING CHINA, which was closing the race off strongly, improved into a narrow run between CHARMGOLD and ALWAYS SOMETHING. As a consequence, FLYING CHINA was steadied when tightened for room and CHARMGOLD and ALWAYS SOMETHING became unbalanced when bumped by FLYING CHINA. For some distance after this, FLYING CHINA was not able to obtain clear running and because of this was not properly tested. After being inconvenienced passing the 100 Metres, ALWAYS SOMETHING, which was giving ground, was not ridden out to the end of the race. In the Straight, FERRO BEAU hung in. When questioned regarding the poor performance of AMNESTY, W C Marwing said his mount was not able to obtain a position in midfield as instructed despite being ridden along in the early stages. He said throughout the race AMNESTY felt “flat” and in the Straight did not close the race off. AMNESTY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of AMNESTY after the race did not show any significant findings. ALWAYS SOMETHING was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of ALWAYS SOMETHING after the race did not show any significant findings. AMIGO and FERRO BEAU were sent for sampling. |

| ROYAL PERICLES was withdrawn on 30.6.09 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter PERFECT STYLE (Z Purton). Before being allowed to race again, ROYAL PERICLES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, WEI HAI INVINCIBLE was buffeted between PERFECT STYLE and BULLISH GOLD. As a consequence, WEI HAI INVINCIBLE lost ground. ULTRA FANTASY began awkwardly. Also on jumping, CRAIG’S DRAGON stumbled. Also at the 800 Metres, ALWAYS GIGGLE was steadied away from the heels of DEFERENTIAL. At the 500 Metres, PERFECT STYLE, which was endeavouring to shift out, became unbalanced after bumping with WEI HAI INVINCIBLE. Inside the final 100 Metres, ULTRA FANTASY, which was closing the race off strongly, got its head on the side and hung in. At the 100 Metres, DIAMOND KNIGHT was steadied away from the heels of BULLISH GOLD which shifted in after being bumped by DEFERENTIAL. In the Straight, DEFERENTIAL hung in. B Doyle (MI REILLY) explained prior to the race he had been advised the horse travels keenly when left racing without cover and only possesses a 300 Metre finishing sprint. He said from a wide barrier he was also advised if he were to go forward, MI REILLY may race without cover and would not relax for him and as a consequence would not finish the race off. He said it was therefore decided MI REILLY would be best suited ridden quietly in a position with cover, then be shifted to the outside in the early part of the Straight to enable it to close the race off. He said MI REILLY began well and over-raced when being taken back in the early stages. He said MI REILLY did not relax for him in the run and as a consequence failed to finish the race off. When questioned regarding the poor performance of CRAIG’S DRAGON, Apprentice K C Leung said prior to the start he gave his mount a good warm up behind the barriers as instructed. He said CRAIG’S DRAGON began only fairly and then despite being ridden along vigorously failed to muster speed as anticipated. He said as a consequence CRAIG’S DRAGON travelled in a rearward position. He said prior to straightening CRAIG’S DRAGON commenced to give ground and because of this he did not persevere in riding his mount out in the Straight. CRAIG’S DRAGON was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CRAIG’S DRAGON after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CRAIG’S DRAGON was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CRAIG’S DRAGON will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the poor performance of GLENEALY STAR, A Gryder explained he was able to obtain a forward position and travelled comfortably in the early and middle stages. He said when placed under pressure GLENEALY STAR initially kept on one-paced before giving ground over the concluding stages. He said he has not previously ridden GLENEALY STAR, however, the horse appeared to race “flat” to him. PRESTO and GLENEALY STAR were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, PRESTO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, PRESTO will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of GLENEALY STAR after the race did not show any significant findings. PERFECT STYLE, DEFERENTIAL and BULLISH GOLD were sent for sampling. |

PLASTIC POLYMER was removed from the stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. BROM BROM began awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, when being taken back, CLEMENT ELITE got its head up and bumped with ABOVE ALL which had bumped with BEAUTY FOREVER which shifted in on jumping. PLASTIC POLYMER began awkwardly and then trailed the field throughout. PLASTIC POLYMER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PLASTIC POLYMER after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of PLASTIC POLYMER was considered unacceptable. After the 400 Metres, SPEEDY WARRIOR was steadied away from the heels of GALEN WIN. Near the 300 Metres, Apprentice K C Leung (STREET CAT) dropped his whip. Apprentice Leung was reminded that the Stewards had recently spoken with him regarding the frequency of him dropping his whip in races and he was told that he must take steps to endeavour to rectify it. After the 200 Metres, BEAUTY FOREVER, which was closing the race off strongly, experienced difficulty obtaining clear running and was steadied. After the 100 Metres, BEAUTY FOREVER improved into a narrow run between GALEN WIN and LU YUE. As a consequence, BEAUTY FOREVER was crowded for room and GALEN WIN and LU YUE became unbalanced when bumped by BEAUTY FOREVER. When questioned, Apprentice M Chadwick (BEAUTY FOREVER) said as the horse was racing first up from a spell today and dropping back in distance, he was instructed from a wide barrier to allow the horse to begin and take it to a position where it was able to travel comfortably. He said it was felt that too much use would be required to be made of BEAUTY FOREVER for it to travel in a forward position. He said after beginning fairly he took BEAUTY FOREVER back to a rearward position where it travelled comfortably. He said in the Straight BEAUTY FOREVER closed the race off strongly and had it been able to obtain clear running, it would have in his opinion figured prominently in the finish. BROM BROM, STREET CAT and HURRICANE DASH were sent for sampling. <2/7/2009 Additional Veterinary Report> PLASTIC POLYMER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. PLASTIC POLYMER was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer D Cruz this morning. | EIGHT PLUS NINE was slow to begin. DR POSSIBLE was slow into stride. On jumping, SOLAR ENERGY and NAMJONG HUNTER were crowded for room between LUCKYME and FORTUNE HAVEN which shifted in. In this incident, LUCKYME became unbalanced after being bumped by SOLAR ENERGY. After the 1000 Metres, EIGHT PLUS NINE, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up. Commencing to make the turn at the 800 Metres, ELEGANT WIN got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of HAPPY SEVEN. At the 500 Metres, ELEGANT WIN was checked when awkwardly placed between FORTUNE HAVEN which shifted out slightly and HAPPY SEVEN which was giving ground. No action was taken. Prior to straightening, LUCKYME was bumped by SOLAR ENERGY which shifted out. Throughout the race, NAMJONG HUNTER travelled wide and without cover. Apprentice M Chadwick (SUPER GENKI) explained it was anticipated his mount which was dropping back in distance today would travel in the rear. He said despite being ridden along in the early stages SUPER GENKI failed to muster speed and became detached from the field. He said he continued to apply pressure to SUPER GENKI throughout the race in an endeavour to stay in touch with the field. He said after entering the Home Straight when shifted to the outside SUPER GENKI closed the race off strongly. The Stewards accepted the explanation of Apprentice Chadwick. When questioned regarding the poor performance of DR POSSIBLE, D Whyte said in the middle stages his mount did not appreciate racing inside other runners and was inclined to hang in. He said he had to make use of DR POSSIBLE to maintain his position. He said prior to straightening he shifted away from the rail, however, in the Straight when placed under pressure DR POSSIBLE hung in badly and failed to close the race off. DR POSSIBLE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported DR POSSIBLE was noted to be making an abnormal breathing noise. He said DR POSSIBLE had previously been reported to be a “roarer”. FORTUNE HAVEN and GO LUCKY GO were sent for sampling. |

Approaching the 1200 Metres, CASH MONEY was steadied away from the heels of BEAUTIFUL CHOICE. At the 1100 Metres, BEAUTIFUL CHOICE became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of JOHNSON. After the 50 Metres, GLORY OF INDIA was steadied away from the heels of MAJESTIC HEART. In the Straight, NILOMETER and THE ONLY KID hung in. Throughout the race, NILOMETER travelled wide and without cover. D Whyte (GLORY OF INDIA) reported prior to entering the Home Straight his saddle shifted back which caused the martingale fitted to the horse to be pulled tight which meant he was not able to ride his mount out as he normally would because he had difficulty using the reins which run through the martingale in the normal manner. He said he continued to ride GLORY OF INDIA out as best as he was able until about 30 Metres from the finish when he steadied his mount away from MAJESTIC HEART which drifted out. He said after this he endeavoured to shift GLORY OF INDIA to the inside of MAJESTIC HEART, but was then unable to continue riding his mount out to the end of the race due to the difficulty he was experiencing. D Whyte was told his explanation would be reported. When questioned, D Beadman (FIRST BEAT) said he was instructed to allow the horse which was resuming today following a bleeding attack to find its feet in the early stages, ensure it was properly balanced and have it close the race off. He said FIRST BEAT began satisfactorily, he rode it quietly in the early stages in accordance with his instructions and allowed it to gradually improve into a position slightly behind midfield. He said FIRST BEAT travelled well in the run and he obtained a position following GLORY OF INDIA which was favourite in the race. He said after the 800 Metres he came back slightly from behind GLORY OF INDIA to allow him the option of shifting to the outside. He said near the 600 Metres he steadied FIRST BEAT away from the heels of MAJESTIC HEART which shifted in momentarily. He said making the Home Turn he allowed FIRST BEAT to improve onto the back of GLORY OF INDIA and MAJESTIC HEART as he believed those horses would carry him forward in the Straight. He said when he did this THE ONLY KID, the eventual winner of the race, improved around his outside and as a consequence he was held up and not able to improve in the early part of the Straight. He said as he endeavoured to shift FIRST BEAT out to obtain clear running, the horse commenced to hang in. He said he changed the whip into his right hand and as he did this he endeavoured to straighten FIRST BEAT at which time the bit pulled through the horse’s mouth. He said because of this he was placed at a disadvantage in riding his mount out. He said FIRST BEAT continued to hang in and initially when in clear running did not respond as he had hoped, however, over the final 200 Metres closed the race off strongly. D Beadman was told his explanation would be reported. CASH MONEY, JOHNSON and KINGSGATE GLORY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CASH MONEY, JOHNSON and KINGSGATE GLORY after the race did not show any significant findings. GLORY OF INDIA, THE ONLY KID and MAJESTIC HEART were sent for sampling. |

He said he became concerned with the action of BULLISH CASH when it was giving ground and in his opinion the horse felt sore in front. | The Stewards today interviewed Jockey B Prebble regarding his conduct when riding ENCOSTA DON on the Large All Weather Track on the morning of Monday 29 June 2009. B Prebble said as he commenced to work ENCOSTA DON, the horse became unsettled on entering the Back Straight when photographers from the media who had been taking pictures of horses on the 1800 Metre turf gallop changed their position to photograph horses working on the Large All Weather Track. He said after ENCOSTA DON completed its work, he believed the photographers directed comments towards him which he did not understand. He said following this he then directed inappropriate comments towards the photographers generally. B Prebble said on a number of occasions during the season he has spoken to Racing Management regarding the conduct of the photographers at this location on mornings when 1800 Metre grass gallops were taking place. He said in his opinion the movement of the photographers has the potential to place the safety of riders on horses using the All Weather Track at risk. B Prebble was fined $5,000 for misconducting himself by directing inappropriate comments towards the members of the media. In arriving at this penalty, the Stewards accepted B Prebble has on several occasions expressed concern over the movement of the photographers at this location during track work and that the photographers had previously been advised by the Club to be conscious of the safety of horses and riders when changing positions between the turf track and the All Weather Track. In addition, the Stewards were aware that this matter had been on-going for some time. The Stewards will make a report to the Club’s Occupational Safety and Health Committee regarding this matter. |
