SUPREME TAIJI was slow to begin and then after the 800 Metres got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of RIDE ON THE FIRE. Approaching the 600 Metres, PURE FORCE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of VICTORY GENERAL. After the 600 Metres, VICTORY GENERAL got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of BET ON ME. Then near the 500 Metres, VICTORY GENERAL, which was continuing to race ungenerously, shifted in, resulting in SUPER BROTHER being crowded for room. Shortly after entering the Straight, GOLD EDITION got its head on the side and shifted in. For some distance after the 200 Metres, VICTORY GENERAL raced tight between SECRET OF WINNING and EVER BEAUTY which shifted out slightly. Then near the 100 Metres, SECRET OF WINNING shifted in marginally when bumped on the hindquarters by VICTORY GENERAL, resulting in VICTORY GENERAL being crowded for room and becoming unbalanced after making contact with the hindquarters of EVER BEAUTY. Also near the 100 Metres, SUPREME TAIJI was steadied when held up for clear running behind RIDE ON THE FIRE and inside GOLD EDITION. Over the concluding stages, SUPER BROTHER was steadied away from the heels of SUPREME TAIJI. Throughout the race, FIVE STARS HOTEL travelled wide and without cover. Also throughout the race, EVER BEAUTY travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of SUPER BROTHER after the race did not show any significant findings. SUPREME TAIJI, RIDE ON THE FIRE and SECRET OF WINNING were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (472) PUNE HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1650 m

LUCKY ARMY, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 13.3.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY ARMY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BROTHERS IN ARMS began awkwardly. SPEEDY WARRIOR began awkwardly and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of SONOFTHEWEST which shifted out after blundering at the start. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, HUA SHI was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BROTHERS IN ARMS when being shifted in across behind that runner. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, BROTHERS IN ARMS shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of TANG PALACE. Near the 600 Metres, HUA SHI was steadied away from the heels of GORGEOUS RULER which lost ground. Close to the finishing line, MASTER DRAGON was steadied away from the heels of NOBLE TWINS which shifted out. Also close to the finishing line, HUA SHI was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BROTHERS IN ARMS. For the majority of the race, MASTER DRAGON travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, M L Yeung (GORGEOUS RULER) said that passing the winning post on the first occasion his mount jumped a shadow on the track and became unbalanced. He said after this GORGEOUS RULER travelled satisfactorily until near the 600 Metres at which point the horse became badly unbalanced of its own accord and lost ground after shifting out towards the heels of TANG PALACE. He said he rode GORGEOUS RULER along after this to maintain its position, however, GORGEOUS RULER was travelling only fairly. He said rounding the Home Turn GORGEOUS RULER again became unbalanced and got its head down for a number of strides. He said after this happened he recommenced riding GORGEOUS RULER along, however, the horse did not finish off the race. He said after the race GORGEOUS RULER’s action appeared to be normal. A veterinary inspection of GORGEOUS RULER after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, GORGEOUS RULER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of O’REILLY MAGIC after the race did not show any significant findings. GORGEOUS RULER, CLASSA and HEALTHY CONTENDER were sent for sampling.
<15/3/2012 Additional Veterinary Report> The Clinical Veterinary Surgeon reported that SONOFTHEWEST was lame in the left front leg on the day after racing. Before being allowed to race again, SONOFTHEWEST will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Race:3 (473) KOLKATA HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 (Special Condition) 1200 m

Trainer C Fownes was fined a sum of $2,000 for declaring Apprentice K C Ng as the rider of ALWAYS WELL when that apprentice jockey was not properly engaged. CLASSIC AWARDS stood flat-footed at the start and lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, CLASSIC AWARDS will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. INTELLECTUALSTRIDE was slow to begin and shortly after the start was taken across behind runners. Approaching the 1000 Metres, EL GRANDE became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of SUPER BRAND which itself was being steadied to obtain cover. Near the 400 Metres, EL GRANDE was checked when momentarily crowded for room inside GENUINE LEADER which, after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of ROCKET PROUD, shifted in marginally. No action was taken. Z Purton (SURFER BOY) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the concluding stages he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent that horse from shifting out, resulting in ROCKET PROUD being checked when crowded for room and CHARMGOLD and ALWAYS WELL also being crowded for room. Z Purton was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 16 April 2012 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 1 April 2012. When questioned regarding his riding of GOLD WINNER, principally after the 800 Metres, H W Lai stated that he had been instructed to attempt to cross SUPERIOR WARRIOR to his inside and lead the race if possible, however, if not, he should obtain a position to that horse’s outside. He said he rode GOLD WINNER along vigorously in the early stages, however, it did not show sufficient speed to cross SUPERIOR WARRIOR and for this reason he positioned GOLD WINNER to the outside of that horse. He said making the turn near the 1000 Metres SURFER BOY improved its position to be racing outside GOLD WINNER and at this time GOLD WINNER immediately got its head on the side and commenced to hang in badly. He said approaching the 800 Metres he allowed GOLD WINNER to stride forward, however, he was reluctant to ride his mount along at this time to cross SUPERIOR WARRIOR due to the manner in which GOLD WINNER was hanging in. He added that he felt that had he commenced to ride GOLD WINNER along, the horse would have shifted ground abruptly which would have resulted in interference being caused to SUPERIOR WARRIOR to his inside. He said near the 600 Metres whilst he had improved to be forward of SUPERIOR WARRIOR, he did not feel that he was sufficiently clear to cross that horse and for this reason he continued to race one horse off the fence. H W Lai was advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he should have made more of an effort after the 700 Metres to cross SUPERIOR WARRIOR, particularly given that that horse was not being ridden along to maintain its position at that time of the race. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SUPER BRAND had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of SUPERIOR WARRIOR after the race revealed that the horse had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of CLASSIC AWARDS after the race did not show any significant findings. GENUINE LEADER and SURFER BOY were sent for sampling.
<15/3/2012 Additional Veterinary Report> SUPERIOR WARRIOR, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time the horse was found to have bled from both nostrils. SUPERIOR WARRIOR was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer P F Yiu this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SUPERIOR WARRIOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Race:4 (474) MUMBAI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

NOBLE DE BEST was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (skin allergy). Before being allowed to race again, NOBLE DE BEST will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. KOENIGSBERG, which was fractious in the barriers, began awkwardly, resulting in its rider, K C Leung, becoming unbalanced in the saddle. WHITE HART KING began awkwardly. A short distance after the start, KOENIGSBERG was crowded for room between STARLIT WARRIOR and SOMETHING SPECIAL which shifted out. From wide barriers, HEALTHY MANNER and TOP DRAGON were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Approaching the 1200 Metres, TOP DRAGON commenced to travel strongly and was shifted out away from the heels of STARLIT WARRIOR, resulting in HEALTHY MANNER being taken wider. At the 1200 Metres, ALMIGHTY WINDPOWER was steadied away from the heels of EASY AHEAD (Apprentice T H So) which shifted in when not properly clear. Apprentice So was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances. At the entrance to the Straight, CLYDESIDER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PERFECT TEN after being taken out by HAPPY SCORE which shifted out to obtain clear running. Shortly after entering the Straight, HAPPY SCORE was taken in by PERFECT TEN which shifted in. After the 200 Metres, HAPPY SCORE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of WHITE HART KING which shifted ground. Over the concluding stages, KOENIGSBERG was steadied away from the heels of HAPPY SCORE which shifted out. Because of this, KOENIGSBERG was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. For the majority of the race, PERFECT TEN travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SOMETHING SPECIAL, N Callan said that he had trialed the horse in the lead up to tonight’s race and, in his opinion, that trial was only fair. He sais in tonight’s race he rode SOMETHING SPECIAL at the rear of the field which is usual and consistent with the manner in which he rode it at its last start when successful. He said however that after the 800 Metres he became concerned with the manner in which SOMETHING SPECIAL was travelling and he then had to ride the horse along after the 600 Metres in an attempt to stay with the field. He said as SOMETHING SPECIAL did not respond to his riding, he used the whip on the horse near the 500 Metres in an endeavour to have it respond. He added that despite this SOMETHING SPECIAL did not respond to his riding at any stage and in the Straight got its head up and appeared to him to be reluctant to stride out. He said after the race SOMETHING SPECIAL’s action appeared normal and he was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing manner in which the horse raced tonight. A veterinary inspection of SOMETHING SPECIAL after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SOMETHING SPECIAL, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SOMETHING SPECIAL will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of HEALTHY MANNER after the race did not show any significant findings. HAPPY SCORE, TOP DRAGON and EASY AHEAD were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (475) BANGALORE HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 1650 m

WITHINMYHEART shifted out at the start and bumped EMPEROR CLAUDIUS. BUSINESS AS USUAL began awkwardly and shortly after the start became unbalanced when bumped by FORTUNE RED PEPPER which shifted in after beginning awkwardly. After this, BUSINESS AS USUAL was ridden along to improve its position and passing the winning post on the first occasion was steadied when momentarily crowded for room between WITHINMYHEART and HOT SHOT, both of which shifted ground. After the 1100 Metres, BUSINESS AS USUAL got its head up when proving difficult to settle. Near the 600 Metres, WITHINMYHEART and BUSINESS AS USUAL bumped. At the entrance to the Straight, FUN RIDER shifted out to obtain clear running and in doing so bumped FLYING SUPREME. After the race, O Doleuze reported that WINNING EDGE did not show a similar turn of foot that it did at its most recent start and then hung in in the Straight, resulting in the horse being difficult to ride out. A veterinary inspection of BUSINESS AS USUAL and WINNING EDGE after the race did not show any significant findings. WINNING EDGE, EMPEROR CLAUDIUS and HOT SHOT were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (476) DELHI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1650 m

As the start was effected, LEGEND EXPRESS reared and consequently lost a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, LEGEND EXPRESS will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. TOWERING STORM was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, CHAMPAGNE DAYS raced tight between THE UNTOUCHABLELAD which shifted in and FLYING IN which shifted out after being bumped on the hindquarters by CHAMPAGNE DAYS. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, CHAMPAGNE DAYS raced in restricted room between THE UNTOUCHABLELAD and SUPREME FLIGHT which shifted out slightly. Passing the 1600 Metres, HAPPY AMBASSADOR shifted out and bumped SUNRISE. Passing the 1100 Metres, CHAMPAGNE DAYS got its head up and proved difficult to settle when awkwardly placed close to the heels of THE UNTOUCHABLELAD. NORDIC STAR hung out rounding the Home Turn. Near the 250 Metres, FLYING IN was shifted out after being disappointed for running inside SUPREME FLIGHT. Approaching the 200 Metres, TOWERING STORM was shifted in away from the heels of THE UNTOUCHABLELAD which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly when giving ground. For some distance after this, TOWERING STORM raced tight outside FLYING IN which was shifted out to obtain clear running. Then close to the finishing line, TOWERING STORM was steadied away from the heels of FLYING IN which was taken out by LUCKY WARRIOR (D Whyte). D Whyte was reprimanded advised to exercise care. Because of this, TOWERING STORM was not ridden out to the end of the race as it normally would be. Over the concluding stages, FLYING IN then raced tight between LUCKY WARRIOR and SUNRISE which was racing tight inside YUE LU TREASURE. For the majority of the race, SUNRISE travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, T Clark stated that he had been instructed to obtain a position in about 5th or 6th placing behind the speed if possible. He said Mr J Size, the trainer of RIGHT TIMING, did not want the horse to be ridden along in the early stages to take up a forward position as it was felt that it may not finish off its race if it had to be ridden along to obtain this position. He said accordingly in the early stages he allowed RIGHT TIMING to stride forward without riding it along to see if it would be able to obtain a position behind the speed as instructed. He said however that shortly after the start there were a considerable number of horses to his inside and he felt that to have cleared those horses, he would have had to make use of RIGHT TIMING which would have resulted in the horse being ridden towards the lead which would have been contrary to his instructions. He said for this reason, prior to the winning post on the first occasion, he elected to steady RIGHT TIMING and shift across behind runners albeit that it was further back in the field than had been intended. He said although RIGHT TIMING was able to obtain cover, the horse was required to race in a three wide position. He added that he placed RIGHT TIMING under pressure near the 500 Metres, however, the horse did not quicken and in the Straight was disappointing. He said although the circumstances of the race did not suit RIGHT TIMING, the horse nonetheless did not finish off the race as had been expected. A veterinary inspection of THE UNTOUCHABLELAD and RIGHT TIMING after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, HAPPY AMBASSADOR was found to have sustained a cut to the right front fetlock. SUNRISE, LUCKY WARRIOR and YUE LU TREASURE were sent for sampling.
<15/3/2012 Additional Veterinary Report> The Clinical Veterinary Surgeon reported that LUCKY WARRIOR was lame in the left front leg on the day after racing. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY WARRIOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Race:7 (477) THE INDIAN RECREATION CLUB CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 3 1800 m

VIGOR DELIGHT was slow to begin. From a wide barrier, OWNERS’ GLORY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Shortly after entering the Straight, GREAT RENOWN, VIGOR DELIGHT and HO HO LIFE raced tight. Throughout the race, NICE FOLKS travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. The performance of NICE FOLKS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, NICE FOLKS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of NICE FOLKS and HANDSOME BATCHELOR after the race did not show any significant findings. HO HO LIFE, SHINY DAY and INDIGO WAY were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (478) CHENNAI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

From wide barriers, MASTER RIO and RED LUCKY STAR were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1100 Metres, GLORY HORSIE and JADE CHRISTY momentarily raced in restricted room between MI SAVVY and LOADS OF JOY which shifted in. Near the 900 Metres, CHARLES THE GREAT got its head up and raced ungenerously. CHARLES THE GREAT then continued to over-race and near the 700 Metres shifted in abruptly when being checked away from the heels of CHATER POWER. After the 800 Metres, KICK SERVE was left racing wide and without cover. Near the 200 Metres, GLORY HORSIE was shifted out away from the heels of JADE CHRISTY which was commencing to give ground. After the 100 Metres, CENTURY SUPER STAR shifted in and bumped GLORY HORSIE. When questioned regarding the performance of WINDICATOR STAR, B Prebble stated that after being loaded his mount became very fractious and reared. He said WINDICATOR STAR then began awkwardly and a short distance after the start was checked when crowded for room between CHARLES THE GREAT which shifted in after being bumped by MASTER RIO and BULLISH KING which shifted out after being bumped on the hindquarters by WINDICATOR STAR. He said after this he shifted WINDICATOR STAR across behind runners and was able to make up ground in the run to the first turn which resulted in it obtaining a favourable position. He said WINDICATOR STAR travelled strongly in the middle stages and near the 500 Metres he felt that his mount was going well enough to figure in the finish. He added however that at the entrance to the Straight WINDICATOR STAR immediately came under pressure and despite being ridden along did not finish off its race. He said, in his opinion, the manner in which WINDICATOR STAR weakened in the Straight was disappointing. The barrier manners of WINDICATOR STAR were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WINDICATOR STAR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of JADE CHRISTY, Apprentice T H So stated that he had to make considerable use of the horse in the early stage to obtain a forward position as instructed including having to ride it with the whip due to it being slow to begin. He said after the 1000 Metres he was obliged to continue riding JADE CHRISTY along in order to cross MI SAVVY to his inside which he was not able to do until after the 800 Metres. He said after this JADE CHRISTY travelled fairly until the 400 Metres at which point the horse came under pressure and then weakened out of the race in the Straight. He did say that he had ridden JADE CHRISTY in a piece of track work in the lead up to tonight’s race and, in his opinion, that work was good. He said that, in his opinion, the disappointing performance of JADE CHRISTY could be attributed to the amount of use that had to be made of the horse in the early stages to obtain a forward position. A veterinary inspection of WINDICATOR STAR and JADE CHRISTY after the race did not show any significant findings. A veterinary inspection of GLORY HORSIE after the race did not show any significant findings other than the horse had lost its left front plate. CHARLES THE GREAT and MI SAVVY were sent for sampling.
