KAPIL began awkwardly. Shortly after the start, JOYFUL WINNER raced tight between BULLISH LUCK and CASINO PRINCE, both of which shifted ground. At the 1200 Metres, LINNGARI and CASINO PRINCE were carried wider by GOOD BA BA which shifted away from the rail behind THE DUKE. KAPIL, which was following LINNGARI, was checked and shifted out to avoid the heels of that horse. After this, CASINO PRINCE raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. GOOD BA BA proved difficult to settle in the early and middle stages and passing the 1000 Metres was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLORAL PEGASUS. JOYFUL WINNER had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 400 Metres was shifted to the inside of GOOD BA BA to improve its position. KAPIL hung out in the Home Straight. When questioned regarding the poor performance of BULLISH LUCK, B Prebble said due to the tempo of the race the horse was ridden more forward than it normally would be. He said BULLISH LUCK was not comfortable on today's track surface which had some cushion and not as firm as the horse usually prefers. BULLISH LUCK was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BULLISH LUCK after the race did not show any significant findings. GOOD BA BA, ABLE ONE and JOYFUL WINNER were sent for sampling. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on FLORAL PEGASUS at the request of Trainer A S Cruz. The Veterinary Officer said this examination showed the horse had an epiglottic entrapment. |
