OVERSEAS INFO:

Previously campaigned as KAMACITE while conditioned by Tony Gollan, PRIMERO, yet to miss the board with altogether a 3-1-1 record through a quintet of starts in Australia,

  • Broke his maiden in a right¡Vhanded, 1000-meter contest at Sunshine Coast on May 8, 2016, for a purse of AUS$14,000;
  • tretched out and scored in a right¡Vhanded, 1200-meter Class 1 handicap (Australian Classification) at Sunshine Coast on May 22, 2016, for a purse of AUS$14,000; and
  • tepped up with further success in the Queensland Day Stakes (AUS-Listed), another right¡Vhanded, 1200-meter prize for three-year-olds on May 28, 2016, for a sweetened pot of AUS$100,000. Coming out of that same race, second-placed MOGADOR then ran third next out in Group III competition.
  • COMMENTS AND PROSPECT:

    PRIMERO is a son of NORTHERN METEOR who, back in his racing days, was a Group I winner with three (3) career victories solely in the sprinting category. Since retiring to stud, NORTHERN METEOR has mainly fathered sprinters of pronounced precocity, in particular a trio of Group I graduates in Golden Rose Stakes (AUS-GI) / Coolmore Stud Stakes (AUS-GI) winner ZOUSTAR, 2014 Tattersall's Tiara Stakes (AUS-GI) winner COSMIC ENDEAVOUR, and Atkins Stakes (AUS-GI) winner ROMANTIC TOUCH; whereas NORTHERN METEOR himself being a grandson of 1981 Met Mile winner FAPPIANO, one of the late U.S. Hall of Fame trainer / Breeders' Cup co-founder John Nerud's gems that, through such auxiliary lineage, emerges none other than AMERICAN PHAROAH, finally the first U.S. Triple Crown winner in thirty-seven years, the all-weather talent for any NORTHERN METEOR definitely deserves a way better gauge.

    In distance, the majority sired by NORTHERN METEOR are genuine sprinters that excel at a mile or under; that being said, PRIMERO, thrice a winner at 1200 meters or under in Australia, should likewise be a genuine sprinter.

    In course preferences, many a NORTHERN METEOR is extremely versatile, with winners logged all over turf, dirt and at Happy Valley in Hong Kong.

    In general outlook, NORTHERN METEOR is gradually building up as a force to be reckoned with in Hong Kong, with eleven (11) local winners spearheading the local fraternity as of date. For PRIMERO, who has flashed some blinding speed through his overseas appearances, he looks to be a solid cut-back prospect to deliver in Class 3.
