Please take a look at the following formulae:
3+1+2=6
1+2+3=6
2+3+1=6
In
these formulae, the sum is 6 no matter how the sequence
of the three numbers is arranged. However, the case is not
so simple in the racing world. Riders must use tactics that
suit the characteristics of their mounts in order to be
effective. If a front-runner can finish a 1200-metre race
in 1.10 minutes, it may not be able to finish it within
the same time if it is held up for a late finish. Similarly,
if a back-finisher can finish a 1600-metre race in 1.35
minutes, it can hardly finish within the same time if it
tears away early on.
However, there are no hard-and-fast rules. The tactics
that are employed in a race can vary, depending on circumstances.
Jockeys should exercise their initiative and make the necessary
adjustments to suit different circumstances.
