The originally name of Prix de l'Arc de
Triomphe was first used in 1882 for a ten-furlong seller that was
held in the month of April. After WWI, the French wanted to revive
the glory of their horseracing, thus, adopted this one time lowly
seller race name of Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe to be their top race
of that country to celebrate the victory of World War I.
Since its inaugural race in 1920, the Prix
de l'Arc de Triomphe has the tradition calls for the playing of
the anthem of the country in which the winner is trained, rather
than saluting of the horse's or owner's origin. The venue of the
race was moved to Tremblay Racecourse between 1943-44 during WWII
and was also stopped for two years in a row between 1939-40, therefore,
the actual number of running since its inception year stands at
80 before 2002.
Prix de a'Arc de Triomphe is by common
consent the all-aged middle-distance championship of Europe and
up 2002, there are only six repeat winners and they are ALLEGED,
RIBOT, TANTIEME, CORRIDA, MOTRICO & KSAR, and except Motrico
who won in 1930 & 1932, the other 5 were all back-to-back winner.
