About Champion Awards
The Champion Awards 2002, the annual gathering where
the horses, trainers and jockeys that have excelled during the past
nine months are honoured. The star-studded awards will take place on
Friday, 14 June at the Grand Ballroom, Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.
A
total of eleven awards will be handed out:
(1) The
Horse of the Year,
(2) The Most Popular Horse,
Champions in the following
equine categories will also be selected:
(3) Champion
Griffin (New imports),
(4) Champion Sprinter (1200m or
under),
(5) Champion Miler (1400m to 1650m),
(6) Champion Middle-Distance (1800m
to 2000m),
(7) Champion Stayer (2200m and over),
and
(8) Most Improved Horse.
Awards will also be given to the Champion
Trainer, Champion Jockey, and Champion
Apprentice Jockey with the most wins registered during the season.
The Horse of the
Year and the five Champion awards will be decided by a judging panel
comprising three officials from the Jockey Club and the three representatives
from the Association of Hong Kong Racing Journalists. The judges will
first select two finalists for each of the five Champion awards. These
horses will then be entered into the competition for the Horse of the
Year and the The "Most Popular Horse of the
Year" Voting.
The judging panel will decide the winner of the former
category, while votes from Hong Kong's racing fans will identify the
latter. The Most Improved Horse
award goes to the horse that has achieved the greatest increase in ratings
points since the start of the season.
The event is being co-produced with ATV for broadcast
in the same evening from 9:30 pm to 10:45 pm. Stay tuned!
