Visitors' Guide
Chairman's Message
On
behalf of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, a very warm welcome to the 2002
Hong Kong International Races.
Starting from our very first Invitation Races in
1988, the Hong Kong International Races have grown in just 15 years
to encompass four international races, which from this year are all
ranked at International Group One. This is the product not only of the
great advances in Hong Kong racing but of the strong support of the
international racing community.
This year, the four races comprise the Hong Kong
Cup (world's richest 2000m turf race), the Hong Kong Mile (world's richest
mile race), the Hong Kong Vase, and the Hong Kong Sprint (world's richest
1000 metre open sprint). Together they carry total prize money of $56
million (approx. US$7.18 million).
The races are the culmination of a week long festival
of racing celebrating Hong Kong's favourite sport. Highlights include
the International Jockeys' Championship at our famous city track in
Happy Valley, and the Hong Kong International Sale and Gala Dinner in
the harbour side Convention Centre.
While
you are here, I hope you will also take the opportunity to explore
Hong Kong, perhaps on one of our Club organised tours. Hong Kong's
lively shopping and dining, and its unique blend of East and West,
are absolutely not to be missed.
I do hope you enjoy your stay with us and that you
take home many happy memories of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong International
Races.
