The Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
Sprint, to be run over 1200 metres, is an International Group
3 race with a total prize money of S$1 million (approx. HK$4.2
million). This year's field will be made up of eight overseas
participants, including two Hong Kong challengers, CHARMING CITY
and FIREBOLT plus four domestic runners.
Last year, the Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Sprint was won by
IRON MASK, owned by Wertheimer Brothers, ridden by O Doleuze and
trained by C Head-Maarek.
The Singapore Airlines
KrisFlyer Sprint 2002 will be held on Saturday, May 11,
at Kranji Racecourse, with the inaugural Singapore Airlines International
Cup as the highlight of the day.
The Hong Kong Jockey Club has decided
to simulcast and conduct betting on both Singapore Airlines International
Cup and Singapore Airlines Krisflyer Sprint. Win, Place and Quinella
pools will, as usual, be in operation and provided there are no
more than 14 starters in each race, Double, Tierce, Trio and Quinella
Place pools will also be available.
Kranji
Racecourse
The Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Sprint
is run over a left-handed 1200m circuit on the short course. A
straight sprint 400 metres long takes the runners into the home
bend which arcs on a slight camber for 400 metres before the horses
straighten up for the 400-metre long home stretch that inclines
slightly to the left. Given the high level of rainfall in Singapore,
the track's sand base prevents water logging and provides a good
racing surface throughout the year.
