Formerly known as the Governor's Cup or the Plenipotentiary Cup, the HKSAR Chief Executive's Cup is usually held at the season's opening day since the 1997/1998 season, awarding the winner with a new London made silver-gilt trophy. As tradition goes, the HKSAR Chief Executive becomes the patron of the Jockey Club in this spectacular annual event.
