Racing Season to start with good fortune on Sunday 14 September

The Season Opening race meeting at Sha Tin Racecourse this Sunday (14 September) promises to bring good fortune to all comers (Photo 1), with a 2014/15 Racing Calendar* as free door gift, and an Instant Win Card# offering the chance to win one of 130 ornaments in 24K gold plate worth $2,388 each.  Some lucky racegoers might also grab the Triple Trio Dividends worth a combined $50 million^ for the new season’s first two meetings.

The opening ceremony will take place in the Parade Ring at 12:00 noon. It will start with the traditional eye-dotting of the ceremonial lions, then a 130-strong lion dance to mark the Club's 130th Anniversary season, followed by the gong-striking ceremony performed by HKSAR Chief Secretary for Administration, The Hon Mrs Carrie Lam (Photo 2).

Mrs Lam will later present the trophy to the winning connections of the HKSAR Chief Executive's Cup, scheduled to be run as Race 3 at 2:00 pm.

Special Triple Trio dividends totalling $50 million will be on offer, with an estimated $30 million Triple Trio first prize for a single $10 winning unit on season opening day, followed by a likely $20 million for the first Sha Tin night meeting of the season on Wednesday 17 September.

Racegoers can also enjoy an array of on-course activities befitting the festive theme, including:

  • An eye-catching range of T-shirts ($160) and duffle bags ($380) illustrating the spectacular Happy Valley Racecourse, specially-created by renowned Japanese artist Kiyoko Yamaguchi and on sale at Gift Shop At The Races at the season opening day while stocks last.
  • An extensive range of "horse camouflage" style merchandise, on sale from 14 September onwards.
  • Mini-gongs and lucky formations set up near the racecourse main entrances to boost racegoers’ fortunes (Photo 3).
