The Hong Kong Jockey Club will be hosting a special National Day Race Meeting at Sha Tin Racecourse on Wednesday 1 October, featuring festive performances from world-acclaimed artists as well as thrilling sporting action (Photo 1). Visitors to Hong Kong will be offered free admission.
Spectacular cultural performances
Renowned Mainland soprano Jingjing Li will perform at the National Day race meeting opening ceremony starting at 12:00 noon. She will lead the singing of the National Anthem accompanied by the Hong Kong Police Band, as well as performing other classics (Photo 2). The Shenzhen Fuyong Acrobatic Troupe will deliver their Guinness World Record classic hula-hoop act “The Light of Technology” (Photo 3).
Superb merchandise available for sale
This year's National Day marks the 65th Anniversary of the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. The Club has invited celebrated cross-media artist Simon Ma to create paintings and souvenir designs that translate his “Ren Ma” concept to two of Hong Kong's "hero horses", Designs On Rome and Lucky Nine. To commemorate this landmark, the Club has designed a series of special merchandise, including a National Day Souvenir Envelope Set (HK$140), Deluxe Stamp Box Set (HK$730), Teapot Set (HK$880 - in limited edition of 300 sets) and a Porcelain Pen Set (HK$100). A commemorative Hong Kong Jockey Club 130th Anniversary Fine Silver Medal (HK$2,388- in limited edition of 250 pieces) will also be on sale at Sha Tin Racecourse that day (Photo 4,5).
These superb souvenirs will be available on 1 October while stocks last from designated themed sales counters at Sha Tin Racecourse.
Free admission for visitors to Hong Kong
Visitors to Hong Kong will be offered free admission to Sha Tin Racecourse for the National Day Race Meeting (1 October) and the following Sunday (5 October) on entering the Public Enclosure via tourist entrances and showing their valid travel documents.
Feature race
Ten races are programmed for the National Day Race Meeting, with the first starting at 1:00 pm. Top-class sporting action is assured as the season’s first Group race will be staged – the 1,000m National Day Cup, a local Group 3 event.
