13/10/2014

The Hong Kong Jockey Club will simulcast for betting a total of eight races from the Caulfield Cup Meeting and British Champions Day on Saturday, 18 October.

Caulfield Cup Day (3 races - 1st race starts 1:55pm)

Caulfield Cup Day is the climax of Caulfield’s Spring Racing Carnival. The feature of the day - the Caulfield Cup – is not only the world’s richest 2400m handicap but also an important lead-up race to the prestigious Melbourne Cup held in November. Hong Kong interest will be massive this year with leading jockeys Joao Moreira, Douglas Whyte and Zac Purton due to take part.

The other two races on the card are the David Jones Cup (G3 2000m Open Handicap) and the Tristarc Stakes (G2 1400m for 4yo+ fillies and mares).

Final declarations with barrier draws for the Caulfield Cup Day races will be available on the afternoon of Wednesday, 15 October.

British Champions Day (5 races - 1st race starts 9:20pm)

The eyes of the racing world will turn to Ascot on Saturday evening as some of Europe’s best horses gather for the richest meeting on English soil - British Champions Day.

Five races are to be simulcast, the highlight being the Champion Stakes (G1 2000m) where the evergreen eight-year-old Cirrus Des Aigles will be looking to wrest back the title he won in 2011. The popular gelding was denied a fourth success in the Prix Dollar on Arc weekend having been first past the post but then disqualified for causing interference. Meanwhile, Richard Hannon is looking to extend his lead in the Trainers’ Championship over John Gosden with three of his stable stars - Olympic Glory, Toronado and Night Of Thunder - potentially lining-up in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (G1 1600m).With a total purse of £1,000,000 on offer, this race could turn out to be the Championship decider.

The other three races for simulcast are the British Champions Fillies And Mares Stakes (G1 2400m), the British Champions Sprint Stakes (G2 1200m) and the Balmoral Handicap (3yo+ 1600m) which is Europe’s richest handicap over a mile and has been added this year to further strengthen the supporting card on Champions Day.

Final declarations with barrier draws for the British Champions Day races will be available late evening on Thursday, 16 October at the Jockey Club’s website.
